TNT2 drivers - wots best !!

Just had to re install my graphics card drivers so I went to the Creative site to download the latest drivers for my 3D blaster TNT2 ultra card.
Downloaded the 3db9xdrv_634.exe and the blaster control to go with it V4.27.
Now all I can get in OPENGL is 17 fps where as b4 i was running at 41 fps max (againt a blank wall)
D3D is a total waste of time as 9 fps tis all I get.
Damn and I cant remember which driver version I was running b4 the re-inst.

Also anyone know where or if newer versions of - opengl.dll and glu32.dll are. as if I look in the blaster control trouble shooter nvopengl.dll is dated 20/9/2000 version 4.12.01 but the others above are 23/04/1999 version 4.0

Q. why are the opengl.dll and glu32.dll old 1999 versions?
Q. Anyone know the best drivers for TNT2 cards?

win 98 se
p3 450
gigabyte 2000 bx motherboard (2x agp) 33 dma
tnt2 ultra
256 mb
17 gig hd

I used to have a Diamond Viper v770 TNT2 (not ultra) and could get 50fps average out of it (70+fps against a blank wall).Only ever dropped to 30 when I was on a spacemap.
That was at 800x600,16bit,bi-linear,geometric & texture detail at medium.All other shit turned off, except high quality sky.

I never used the diamond drivers and installed nVidia's detonator drivers but I aint sure which version I was using then, and I aint sure if the newer ones still support TNT.
The readme file will tell you if they are compatable but Im sure there wont be any problems. Just make sure you delete the old ones as instructed in the read me.

Goto Tweakers Asylum, they have ALL the 7.xx,6.xx & 5.xx detonator drivers there and also benchmarks comparing all of em so you can choose which one you want.
6.27 drivers will probably be the best tho.

Oh yeah, that was in Q3 not CS
But im sure there are enough benchmarks at Tweakers for you to make up your own mind as to which would be best to use in conjunction with DX8

Don't bother with the card drivers they are usually never as good as nVidias. Get the nVidia Detenator3 drivers, they will work even if your TNT2 isn't made by nVidia (it still has a nVidia TNT2 processor) they say they can improve performance by upto 50% and this is true, the FPS is improved a little and picture quality is great.

Get them now and if you don't like them, your crazy .

I used them on my Creative Labs TNT2 and now i use them on my Hurcules Prophet2 MX and they improve performance a great deal.

Me loves peeps who leave links, cheers guys.

After much ferking around i eventually ended up using an old V2.08 JULY 1999 driver, but at least I'm getting 44 FPS now.
Seems to me with every new driver release they bung on more bells and whistles which bog the card down.

TweakersAsylum site was good but the driver download section was out of commision so I ended up downloading from :

According to tweakers asylum the 7.52 det 3 drivers are the fastes avaialable ones. REmmber always fully uninstall your previous drivers or the files stay and u get no beneift from the new ones.

Talking of uninstalling old drivers. Will REMOVE-ing them from control panel/system/device manager do the trick as when u reinstall the drivers there's a list of previously installed drivers to choose from. Where's the uninstaller when u want one, typical init.

That was back in the Barrysworld dialup days when phone bills were a damn site heavier than they are these days, but at least back then LPB's were less abundant and most peeps were on 33/56k modems. Thats progress 4 u. hehe.
Still miss those LMCTF days m8, still dont get the buzz that that game gave me, used to stay up all night with it, playing as vipo.
Those days u could play and record a demo and still get a reasonable ping on a 56k modem.

Just tried the 7.52 driver and my fps dropped to 21 max
think I'll stick with 2.08.

5.08 nuff said i run a mix and match of 7.17's and 6.34's atm, seems rock stable. He's right though, never install owt but nvidia dets, unless your cheating turnip and fancy the asus 5.32 Blowout

When i had a tnt2 (last week) i got between 35 and 50 fps on Cs at 1024*76 and 32bbp. This was using the det 3 6.50 adn none of the drivers that came with my card. If u are getting a frame rate drop with the new dets, i would take a serious look at your system setup.
Yes mose of the det drivers can be uninstalled from control panal, add/remove. You do have to restart to remove the drivers currently is use though.

Yeah, the old days on LM were cool, probably due to the fact everyone was paying £100+ a month on dial up to play (no arseholes) and everyone had roughly equal pings.
Still on 56k so I don't play much now, far too many SLPB's for my connection to cope with but Im keeping up the skills for when BT/Telewest finally get their acts together.
I completed Q3 bots on nightmare 2 months after it came out and have constantly practised since, something like 34k frags,8k impressives,1k accuracy etc etc.

Can't wait to get back playing online seriously again but somehow I know I'll never get the same buzz I had back in the old days .Especially as that mod had the best radio sounds ever, as well as the cops theme

True iv'e never got the same vibe when playing any halflife mod. Back in the quake days it was fun, these days the general mass of online players seem to average a more recent date of birth And what remains of the quake2 gamers, are the non for fun guys the game might live but it's all too serious, and no fun.
