Tis too late?

Just wondering if joining the US version is a tad late, several months after release? Is everyone Masters already or are there still people skilling up? Also reaching Master status, does it take time and dedication, or is it quick/easy?

If the servers are packed with masters, perhaps it would be wisest to wait for EU version?

Varies by profession.

The Investigation line in Bounty Hunter is notoriously hard to level up. Other professions vary in amount of work required to attain mastery. As a rule of thumb it probably isnt unusual to master the first tier professions (e.g. Marksman, Scout) in a few days.

All depends how hard you're prepared to grind.

I got Master Creature Handler in about 3 weeks of semi-grinding, and Master Pistoleer about 2 weeks after.

Apparently SOE are going to allow people to move characters across to the EU server - so I don't think you will be able to join a totally clean server (I for one would be looking to move).

Its never too late on an mmorpg. Dont worry about being the 'lowest' player, you never will be, even when a game is 4 years old you'll always have hundreds of new players flooding in daily. There are some masters yea, and loads of novice's..

I dont think you have to be a hardcore player or anything, im certainly not, only play a couple of hours a day during in the week if im lucky, but im not doing terribly.. soon to master unarmed combat, been playing for about 4-5 days.. yea im a bit slow, but as i said i havnt played a great deal.

I have been playing for a month or two now. I have 0 skill points left but im am a master of nothing. I just grind away at the skills i need to help the little group of noobies that i play with.

For example i have spent the lat few nights (1 or 2 hours each day) grinding up the architect profession (0/0/2/1) so i can make the food and chemical factorys. I found it way to expensive to buy them from a vendor so i put my creture handling on hold and surrendered my medic skills.

In the process i managed to grind out about 30 of each type of harvester which will keep us pretty much self sufficient for a few months, allowing us to spend our money on weapons and slicing and eventually a PA hall.

Even if they make us start again once the Euro servers are up, it wont be very long before people hit a master. I could probably hit master architecht in a week or two if i had some help with the resources... It would just be a pain the in the ass having to start again

Never too late in any mmorpg and in a game like SWG it really has little meaning if all but you are master or whaever.
Only skills i can see that might be a tad more difficult is crafting since you will not be able to sell your goods till you hit master and can compare with the other masters.
Even at that it has little consequences.
When I started game was out for about 4 weeks and after a week play i had to travel for 2 weeks but i am nearly master weaponsmith now and have only sold 3 guns in my whole playtime.
Key is do a few missions and then set up 8 mineral installations and then do a few missions a day to cover the maintance cost and then grind .
Unless you particularly want to wait for a euro server, there is no reason not to pick up a US version espically since many online retailers in UK now stock the game now.

Bear in mind that people are surrendering professions all the time and going for something different... Just cos theyre a master creature handler today doesnt mean they wont give it all up and try commando tomorrow :)

You can move the characters eventually but there is no way SOE will allow that right after Euro-release.
Id say they will give a month or so for Euro servers before the character transfer becomes available.

I heard a rumour that Activision were to host the euro servers?

If thats true (and I have no idea how reliable the source is - it could be utter rubbish) it'd seem unlikely that you'd be able to transfer characters between the two different companies.

A. Not at this time, but this is something we want to do in the future.

Yes activision does the Euro release (from official webby).
Character transfers would be as easy to do as patches so I cant see any reason why they would not do it. Besides they allready statet they would at some point.

Because introducing full master crafters, creature handlers etc into a brand new server would utterly break the fledgling economy.

I would guess that character transfers won't be possible at least until the new servers have a healthy population of home-grown masters of their own.

My point was there may be inter-company rivalry/politics (maybe even intellectual property rights?) involved between the two companies/server teams which could prevent the transfer of characters.

However, if the official stance is that its a future possibility then it doesn't look like this is a problem.

Activision signed a contract with SOE so there wont be any intter-company rivalry/politics.
Activision does what SOE tells them to.
