time travel

People who exercise regularly tend to live longer because, according to the Theory of Relativity, they are travelling faster than the rest of us (jogging/cycling etc), and therefore moving forward in time.

Whey hey this dope is good!

Time travels slower the higher up you are. So if you live in a top floor flat, you will age slower, but get less sleep.*

* TIme difference is so small it can only be measure by an atomic clock.

This is because height on earth is proportional to gravity. THe less gravitational pull you are subjected to, the slower time passes for you.

Read "How to build a time machine" by Paul Davies.

Covers all these issues. Class book :)

Just read Einstein's Unfinished Revolution by same author. HTBATM is waiting after I finish Life At Blandings by P.G. Wodehouse. I have to read something funny once in a while :)

No. Other things being equal they live the same length of time. It just looks longer to an observer.

Well, if you have 2 guys, one standing around not doing much, and the other travelling close to the speed of light, then for the guy travelling, mucho time will have passed when he returns. Basically, you could travel into the future.

For the observer, everything will be pretty much as before, except from his point of view, the guy travelling will appear to be moving slowly.

Apparantly if you are travelling at say 1/2 the speed of light and someone shot a beam of light in the same direction that you are travelling in, it will hit you in the same amount of time as if you were not moving at all....and this also applies if the beam of light was shot at you in the opposite direction that you were travelling in.

"in the same amount of time" being the key phrase here. Whose time are you referring to ?

Just seen "Time MAchine" remake, and according to that, all you need is a big brass bed with a revolving unberella on the back.
