Time to switch to a better bow? When and to what?

Hiya all!

I've had fun training my ranger up to level 8 where he now is. I have noticed that my recurwed bow that my trainer gave me is no longer the most damaged outputting bow there I could use. The Weapon merchant has this elm short bow which has Dps of 3.5 as the trainer's gift bow has 3.0.

Should I spend the money on a better bow at this level? And what about the speed rating? Is higher number faster or just the opposite?

I have been lucky with bows, mainly thanks to people giving me the High lvl bows early (cant remeber who gave me what but thanks to people like Hing, Gray, and Igice I have always been using a good weapon)

When you are low lvl its very nice to use weapons that give bonuses to the Bow Skill... I would try and get my hands on the siabrian recursive bow if I were you...

Regarding speed - if one bow is 10.0dps and 3.0spd, and one is 10.0dps and 5.4dps, the slower one will hit harder, but over time they will average out.

Siabran Recurve is way too high for lvl 8, it's orange at 21.

I was given a used enchanted oaken recurve bow at lvl 10. I'm now lvl 11, and the bow is orange, and yellows are now so easy, and I could probably solo oranges. The Dur is a little low, so I'm going to get all the use out of it that I can. Many thanks to the one who gave it to me. :)

If you decide to buy a new bow, buy a player crafted one. The quality on shop bought bows is 85%, player bought is 90% minimum. Most crafters will sell you a 95% quality bow for little or no extra charge for a price that's still lower than a shop bought bow.

Try to get a Siabran Recurve Bow from a nice fellow Ranger for Levels 16-20, before use player crafted recurves (for the higher speed). With 20 you can get an own Siabran Recurve Bow (Quest for Glory) and pass it back or to another lower Ranger.

With Level 26 you should find that omnious nice Ranger again for the Silvered Recurve bow - really gives you a push for the coming levels. With L30 you can get yourself from the epic and pass it along again.

You can use that great bow til 35. With 36 you should get an Ursine Great Recurve Bow from Treibh or a Runic Recurve Bow from the Mines, both don't differ much - Runic's minimal faster with minimal more damage, Ursine's has dex bonus and both will not be the optimum til Level 40.

With 40 it's a go for Guardian Hru's bow (OTD east of Caille in a brown mud bowl surronded by Standing Stones).

when your low level, the bonus doesnt mean squat :p

just check a merchant for a nice bow, and make a fletcher do it, AND demand quality.. 99% should be nice :)

[edit: first nice quest bow is from the lvl20 seeking glory quest, nice bonuses AND 100qua]
