Usually they are bits of card you give to people to get into/onto; planes, trains, clubs and the cinema. Ofcourse this is all hertic knowledge and shouldnt be passed on.

Both teams start off with tickets (normally 300 each but it depends on the map and the ticket setting), every time a member of your team is killed your team looses a single ticket. When the other team fufil the victory conditions on the map (normally holding most or all of the flags) your tickets will start counting down, the only way to stop this is to recap a flag. Once the other team have every flag (there's no where for you to respawn) and every member of your team is dead the tickets will whizz down to 0.
