Right, I have a problem, quite an interesting problem iv never come accross before, here it is!

Outline: Only three programs on my computer can connect to the internet these are Firefox, IE(sp2 version), DAoC SI client and associated .dlls etc.

This poses some serious problems for me because this list does not include my anti virus software so I have to update it manually, I am currently in teh process of running the deepest level scan i can of my entire filesystem.

Details of my setup: I am connected to the net through a router and an ADSL modem connected to that router. I have had everything working fine on this setup. I do NOT use any proxy servers and have checked alll my proxy settings to make sure nothing is trying to use one.

This problem first occured just after uninsalling Trend Micro's pc-cillin software. I completely deleted all files relating to that application and there is no trace of it, apart from the inevitable bollocks windows registry collects on such things.

I'm completely stumped as to what the fuck is going on, I'm assuming it has something to do with the trend-micro software because it was the only major change that I carried out when it broke.

Also, when trying to open a separate install of daoc for my bb it will not connect, so i thought aha, il be clever and copy all the login files from my working install, this did nothing and I could not get it to work.

Any suggestion greatfully recieved. A  for the winner!

Go to Start, Run, and type and run: cmd

Then, in the console, type this:
ping google.com (press enter)
and post its results here.

Then, type this:
ipconfig /all
and post its results here.

I wonder if the ping will return propper replies, and if the iptable can properly query the network subsystem.

ALso, check the event log (ADministrative Tools, in the Configuration Panel)

Error 65 is "Network access is denied" btw, dunno if that really helps though.

...:::::FIXED:::::...

hurray!

OK, the problem was that unistallation of my old firewall (zonealarm) didnt finish properly but it failed to tell me so, and it left behind some true vector service that was apparently blocking 100% access to all but a couple of programs. I disabled the service, everything works lovely.

yay for postcount!

Aye, Zonealarm firewalls have a trend of leaving that engine laying around after uninstall
