Lately I have been going round a mates place to teach him tribes. Hes very keen to learn , he aint bad , but hes been going off tribes and showed me why.

Today ,while I was watching ,he was on a server playing raindance , the score was 8-1 in about 12 minutes (only lasted that long because he hid with the flag ).The naxt map he dropped after getting enemy flag , the game went to 8-0 in about 9 minutes.

The teams were , on one side my mate , a newbie who was on for the first time ,3 guys who didnt even have favourites set , 1 guy who had favourites set but was obviuosly fairly knew, a totall of 6.

On the other side was 3 players from a uktl div2 tribe, 2 players from div1 tribes and 2 players who are on regularly plus 1 unknown player, a total of 8.

Those are just examples from today ,I have been observing loads of games at his place this week and this seems to be a general trend. I estimate that about 80% of his games end under 15 minutes with one side not scoring. It always seem to end up with clanned players ganging up on unclanned.

Most players including me play for fun , getting slaughtered in under 10 minutes regularly is not fun and is causing a lot of new players to lose interest.

Comments on a public server by a div1 player ,when his team is 4-0 up after 5 minutes ,and 3 of the newbie team drop (their gens are down ,base trashed , enemy heavies in base) to the effect that "game dropping people are f***ing up the game " are both insulting and inaccurate. I would say its the better players that are stopping Tribes from growing.

I know that I have been guilty of this in the past and its only watching a newish player that has made realise how bad its getting .

We all like teaming up with our tribesmen and doing well in a game , but lets try evening up games on public servers so we all can have a good game, and hopefully while the better players are scrapping ,the newer players can learn a few things (and not get in our way too much :) )

Yeah,I agree with this completely. People seem to want to win so much that dont care if the sides are one-sided to do it.

And as Rhoadie has pointed out, it will kill the growth of Tribes if something isn't done about it soon.

I recall mention of a Mod that would extrapilate even teams from the scores of the previous map. I think this would be an excellent Mod, and it would also make teams more varied.

Hey Roadie - just a quik line to say I couldn't agree with you more mate.
I was in the same situation as your mate a few days ago...
Not mentioning any names here (altho I am bustin to!) - a div1 clan member on my team and a div2 clan guy on the other. Playing CTF - i joined midgame, basically everyone else seemed to be newbies (tho I am not div1 stuff no flippin way!!). I was tryint to rally the guys but the game was a joke. the two pros were dominating the game and bitchin real bad - blah blah blah. So while they were gassin, I tried to get on with the game and cap a few flags
smile.gif

While I was doin this they were throwin comments around like 'public server games are SOOOO lame' and all that rubbish.
When the div1 guy on my team realises what is goin on (me cappin) - what happens??
he goes TK crazy on me and the pro on the other team goes for me as well.
While all this is goin on - the newbies drop away from the game - they must be thinkin 'ah screw this - what is the point if I am goin to get my ass kicked'...
Don't screw this up please guys - the more people get into Tribes = more new clans and more new faces = more new mates to cuck discs at!!
And i used to think the punk scene was bitchy...LOL
Anyway the rant is over.
take it easy everyone

I am also fed up with the situation and i recommend that when the case clearly arises some of the good players swap to the losing side even if it makes the teams unbalanced

cos 1 good player is worth 4 newbies anyday

if u see then game is a total farce then do something about it

i reckomend the same number of "tribed " people per side so have a swap at the start if its 8 nobodies vs 8 tribed people

the other possibility is that we as the nettribe community made a unilateral desicion not to play on wp servers and let them only be newbie servers, this way thay can have good games and come out into the real world when they are ready

Yeah, it agree with most of this, and personally id really like to see the names of the llamas involved, as ive spotted a few people in clans being tossers on servers, chaning to winning teams, etc, and perhaps one way to stop them would be to spam their names up here or tribesnation or similar, as a 'list of shame' kind of thing.

The problem with having a newbie server is people are bound to jump on it under an alias and just carry on as normal...

I'm all for giving newbies an easier time - I run my little Tribes Training school, which is normally very popular, and I like to think I'm one of the first to change if the sides are uneven...

The problem is the competitiveness of it... People like to win and in most cases they don't want to swap to a side which'll have no chance of winning a game... Its also very tricky to get newbies to swap to the winning team so you can go on the losing team (apart from the few team changers who usually swap when you dont want them to)...

The only solution that seems good is an idea Cuba and Shrapnel suggested in irc the other night... And thats to have more friendly games (or even friendly nights) between the top tribes... Everyone can then get completely tribed out without having to play any newbies...

CIX tribes seems to be a newbie server.
8 player limit so they can always have a run about without every spawn point being covered.
I have to say that public servers suck utterly very often. I was on a 16 player server the other day, all clanned peeps on one side, only me (clanned) on the other. Then someone changed onto the winning side making it 9 vs 7 without anyone being able to join. It seems to be either a drubbing with unfair sides, a walkover with unfair sides or a tough game that one side makes a breakthrough prompting the 4 players of the same clan on one side to all leave at once and ruin the rest of that game (that was entertaining till the breakthrough).
Tribes is fast digging its own grave really.

Its Dynamics publishers fault !!!!!

If you release a game in December in the US and May in the UK your going to get the situation where players who have being playing for months vs players who have played for weeks/days.

The uktl season 1 finished months before the game was released over here so all the div1 uktl players have had the game on import for a long time.

If they had released the game at the same time worldwide we wouldn’t have such a difference between players abilities.

Then thats all the more reason for the 'responsible' name's - clanned or otherwise to try and even the teams up a bit.

Newbies are never gonna learn if they don't stick with it.

And a short note to newbies - please read the manual

Oh and DaJakal people - F**k off - I mean the LEAST you could to is choose your own name at the setup.

Small idea would it be possible to have a server script that kicked all players trying to join with the name DaJakal??

It already exists Goldy and has done since an early server patch.

What you are seeing is people changing the name by one letter or so. You've even got the spelling slightly different yourself
