Lately I have been going round a mates place to teach him tribes. Hes very keen to learn , he aint bad , but hes been going off tribes and showed me why.
Today ,while I was watching ,he was on a server playing raindance , the score was 8-1 in about 12 minutes (only lasted that long because he hid with the flag ).The naxt map he dropped after getting enemy flag , the game went to 8-0 in about 9 minutes.
The teams were , on one side my mate , a newbie who was on for the first time ,3 guys who didnt even have favourites set , 1 guy who had favourites set but was obviuosly fairly knew, a totall of 6.
On the other side was 3 players from a uktl div2 tribe, 2 players from div1 tribes and 2 players who are on regularly plus 1 unknown player, a total of 8.
Those are just examples from today ,I have been observing loads of games at his place this week and this seems to be a general trend. I estimate that about 80% of his games end under 15 minutes with one side not scoring. It always seem to end up with clanned players ganging up on unclanned.
Most players including me play for fun , getting slaughtered in under 10 minutes regularly is not fun and is causing a lot of new players to lose interest.
Comments on a public server by a div1 player ,when his team is 4-0 up after 5 minutes ,and 3 of the newbie team drop (their gens are down ,base trashed , enemy heavies in base) to the effect that "game dropping people are f***ing up the game " are both insulting and inaccurate. I would say its the better players that are stopping Tribes from growing.
I know that I have been guilty of this in the past and its only watching a newish player that has made realise how bad its getting .
We all like teaming up with our tribesmen and doing well in a game , but lets try evening up games on public servers so we all can have a good game, and hopefully while the better players are scrapping ,the newer players can learn a few things (and not get in our way too much )
