Anyone else have this problem?

I'll be playing a game and the Xbox will go quiet and start clicking intermitantly. It then tells me this disk cannot be read and i should clean the disk etc. It's happened on every single game i have since i bought the damn thing in March.I'ts really starting to irritate the hell out of me.Anyone know what can be done to stop it from doing this or do i have to grit my teeth to stop myself from smashing the fecking thing into a million pieces?:(

Is it because i leave the game disk in when i turn the console off?

Is it because i have my xbox in the upright position?

Has Mr. Gates ripped me off?

Should i go back to my ps2?

Anybody?

Mine does it occasionally with Oblivion, but not with any other games. I think its a known issue from the forums. I just save a lot.

Thanks for the reply Will.At least i'm not alone:).Do you know if they are planning to patch it?
It's much more of a problem with Dead Rising with how the saving system is.
Plus i have to get off my arse to sort it out:D.

My PS3 started doing this recently.

You usually need to open the machine to fix it (can be done yourself, just find the guide) - Need to move a pin next to the laser, IIRC.

It might well be a warranty issue, though I won my 360, which makes that tricky. Since its only one game, I'm not too bothered.

Does it? You've got a s/n and you've had it under a year - that should be enough tbh.

Funny how the new one suffers the same problem as the old xbox.

Did you by any chance buy your games from a Game shop?

My mate noticed this problem if they pull it out of the drawers at the back of the counter, but not in a pre-sealed DVD case (which most are retailed in) you get the "dirty disk" error.

Due to their current "storage" methods of wrapping the DVD and the book in elastic bands, it leads to warpage of the DVD so it doesnt sit "true" on the drive.

of course we cant point the finger of blame at Game themselves for their storage of delicate game disks within each individual store. but when every game purchased from Game suffers the "dirty disk" and online retailer disks dont (lovely factory sealed copies) there is a question worth asking.

of course if all your games were bought online, your xbox is knackered, so phone the microsoft support line and get it shipped off for replacement. :p

I used to get this with my original xbox (zero help I know, sorry)

I exchanged the game 3 times before I realised it was the save game. Deleted that and it was fine.

I've seen this a few times with faulty discs, but if you are getting it with all your games it sounds like dodgy hardware, get it swapped.

All my games are bought on-line and are delivered sealed.

Tried putting the xbox horizontal and it hasn't done it since, may still send it back though.

EDIT:Thanks for the replies.
