"[18-05-2005] Maintenance on routers tomorrow morning

Tomorrow morning, May 19th starting at approximately 6h30, some maintenance will be performed on the entrance point into our network. Several routers will be updated and our network traffic will be given a higher priority.

The purpose of these updates is to solve the recent latency problems a lot of you have experienced. During the work you may experience connection problems."

If you read the threads about the other maintenance you'd know this is the first time.

but the question is... did it work?

We'll see only in the evening. Mass lag attacks happend normally from 6pm to 1am. As from pingplotter, I do not see any difference from yesterday morning traceroutes. Lets just wait. And pray.

Will we get any updates as to whether this is fixed?

I just want to know what the problems are in laymans terms, what is being done about it and when will the game be playable again?

Not that i'm missing RvR or anything ;)

Well, if the change made was only in traffic prioritisation, and it works, then I'd explain it like this :

A network link is like a motorway. The traffic on it isn't regulated or ordered. Whatever goes onto it just tries to get on, and if it collides with something else, tough on both bits of information. This is why networks start degrading in performance well before they are actually full.

A prioritisation box looks at those things wanting to go on the motorway, and then decides which can go straight away, and which have to wait. Think of it as traffic lights, with the buses always on green light.

If this is what has happened, we've just been upgraded to bus.

and I guess the only way to know if it worked is to play tonight and see if it lags..
