Theurgist Speccing Question

With 8 slots to play around with I intend to reincarnate my theurgist (only made level 8 last time ).

How viable is pure Ice spec in PvE and RvR? Everyone and his granny seems to be Air spec these days so thought it might be worth a stab at doing something different.

I do have an ice wiz alt, though, so wouldn't really want to spec him that way if the playing experience was the same.

Ice theurg has a nice aoe root and snare,the pets aren't bad either but not as good as air or earth pets imo although the root is very good.The nukes in rvr will hit average nuke dmg on both mids and hibs whereas air does one big heavy nuke vs mids and crap vs hibs.Hinako is ice as far as i know maybe ask her ingame too.

Ice Theurgs I found were quite lusted for in groups, the snare comes in handy too. The main thing I dont like about the snare is that it breaks if the mob gets hit. ie. its a 50% snare that breaks like root would. Correct me if its changed since I last looked

Hinako seems to do ok as ice, though i think she's the only one

41 ice/35 earth is a good alround spec for PvE.

The massive downfall of ice is its power usage. You're using 33power baseline nukes which are faster cast, and hit for less. I think duane worked out it was around 33% more power efficient to be air over ice.

also snare nuke means you cant root...

resist wise:

vs balanced hib groups having 1-2 minutes of BAoD every 30min, warden 24% spirit/body/energy buffs, and a druid with at least 8% heat/cold/energy (pretty much magic immune really when BAoD is up, expect to see nukes for 10 damage - 400 no matter if you are air or ice vs a group of Nolby).

vs random hib groups spirit still isnt ideal, they will probably still have a warden w/ 24% spirit, not to mention racial spirit resist some hibs races get.. spirit dmg vs hibs = not great, but OK. cold wise i dont know, i would guess its slightly better vs random hib groups

vs mids, they seem to have very little spirit resist still, and cold is easier to cap...

some specs:
45 earth/rest ice = if you want to be a PvE PBT bot. you can throw around some ice nukes, but OOP far too quickly to be a full time nuker.

41 ice/35 earth = if you want to be a strong groupable PvE theurg, which can do OK, but not great in RvR. power usage issues are a problem with this spec.

45 air/26 earth = seems to be most viable theurg spec, not great in PvE groups (only 10sec pbt, but better than nowt), but can solo extremely well.

if you want an RvR viable nuker with a little bit of CC thats "different" from air, i'd say the 41ice/35earth... if you're not too bothered about damage output in RvR and want to be in /stick the difference between 45 earth/rest ice and 35 earth/rest ice isnt that much, just you cant nuke nearly as much with 6sec pbt up....

He's talking more about resist buffs, they're less common in Mid

45 air/26 earth/14 ice is actualy a better spec ur find.

The lowlvl AE Root is actualy a great thing now that purge is in the game, CC with Root then with mez if they purge, means u can take more than 2 ppl no problem.

Also the 2 extra lvls in air if u were to go 47 would get u nothing of any value so might as well get +11 wind with a SCsetup + more from realm rank and get some extra utility spells to go with ur character.

What makes the Theurgist class? The mix of Utility and day to day spells that mix in a very good way to make the class both fun and intresting to play

Thanks for the replies, in particular those from Jenkz and Krissy were very useful and heartening I just detest mono-dimensional classes, much better to be able to do a few things - even if they can't be done as well as specialists.
