I bought myself a bottle of Akasa TIM-CLEAN for something like £5
from a local computer shop (before they closed down)

its the mutts nutts for removing artic silver 'n those thermal pads you get on some heatsinks, and it lasts a hell of a long time!

look Here @ OCUK

it rocks :)

Nail polish remover is an excellent alternative to Xylene. Then use Arctic Silver paste, although doing so will void your AMD warrenty.

Hi guys

Wilier reminded me of this, so you have him to thank. Basically, using any thermal paste will void your AMD warranty, apart from one AMD approved brand, but this is nigh on impossible to get hold of. That's not to say that using thermal paste is a bad idea, far from it, but doing so allows AMD to discontinue their support if they choose. I personally doubt if they would ever enforce this right, but nevertheless it exists. NeoWin posted a brief article a while back about it.

As to your question, Arctic Silver is one of the most popular brands, and the syringe-like applicator is very popular :)

Kind Regards

I would advise against using nail polish remover as it is a source of acetone.

If possible get hold of some IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol). It's usually found in most CD cleaning kits.

Although I have 10 gallons of it next to me :/

Whats the problem with acetone? I've been using it to remove thermal paste (and my nail polish) for ages.

Cos it's about 50p a bottle.

It's the acetone that takes off the goop, so it'll have to have it to remove it.

I'm partial to Isopropyl Alcohol to remove sticky goo, or occasionally meths.
