Hi guys

Back from the dead ;) Basically, I need to be a bit cheeky and ask for your help ...

I'm trying to launch a charitable Internet design company (see Amaurea Design below) and with my summer holidays approaching (4 months off :D) I really need to improve my client base and earn some money whilst I'm at it. So I thought I'd come to the people who know me (for better or for worse ;)) and ask if you can help.

Basically, if you need any web design work doing, from whole websites to backend scripting, or you know of a company or organisation who does, then I'd be very grateful if you could get in touch. I would have to charge, but being charitable, the idea is to merely cover my costs and donate the rest to good causes, thus allowing me to keep my fees vastly under other companies (and if you refer a company, I'll happily give you 5% of the fee as a thank you).

Specialisations

  • Standards compliant XHTML and CSS frontend design
  • Attractive, user-friendly and accessible websites (508 and AAA accessibility friendly)
  • XML, XSLT, RSS, SVG and other XML-based technologies
  • PHP and MySQL backend design
  • Client-side Javascript scripting (DHTML, DOM)
Exceptions

  • No Flash, sorry (SVG may be suitable)
  • No ASP/ASP.net and MSSQL (unless you're willing for me to take a little longer to improve my understanding)
About Amaurea Design

Amaurea Design, the moniker under which I work, has a simple foundation: Outstanding Internet Design with a Charitable Edge™. As all the profits go to those who really need it (Cancer Research UK, Christian Aid, Red Cross, Médecin Sans Frontières etc.) everybody wins:

  • You/the client gets what I hope would be an excellent, bespoke service
  • You/the client gets the good feeling or positive publicity associated with helping good causes
  • I get to do something I love and earn a little money whilst helping those in need

Anyway ...

Anyway, like I say, I know this is very cheeky, but I genuinely would appreciate any help you could offer. Thanks for everything.

Kind Regards

Jonty

P.S. My apologies for the duplicate post

Thanks Tom, that sounds good :) I won't hold you to it if you decide against it, though :)

Hi pcg79

Basically, the fee for a project can be categorised into three areas:

  1. My personal earnings
  2. Associated costs with the project
  3. Profits for the charity
Mostly I tend to work backwards when pricing, asking the client how much they have budgeted for a project. From this figure I ensure that xx% goes to charity, with the rest providing a 'wage' to tide me over. Any associated costs with the project (paying for images, browser compatibility tests etc.) are paid for from my 'wage' so as to ensure the charitable 'profits' remain untouched. If that all makes sense ...? hehe. Bit of an odd way of doing things, but it seems fair.

Hope that answers your question

Kind Regards

Can you charge them 5000 quid? That would be a nice 5% :)
