FuROf knight: that's not quite true, I wouldn't say blueyonder was pay-to-play really.

Most of the new blueyonder service is 100% free, including access to game servers, forums, instant messaging etc. However, subscribers get access to extra functionality: eg. being able to book game servers and also launch their own personal game servers on the spot. Also if a subscriber is a member of a clan they can enter the clan in the BY leagues and tournaments.

Hope that's cleared that up. :)

They've only just been installed, there'll be more game ports up and running soon.

...oh and I'd check the T&C's of your ADSL contract before thinking about firing up a game server.

BTOpenworld don't explicitly say you can't, they just say that ADSL is not suitable.

In practice they don't care what you do as long as it's decent and legal. BUT, if you host a website and, for example, leave a SMTP port open for wandering spam merchants to hijack, you're out on your ear matey (has already happened to a couple of people).

hehe :)

Well, the move from free to p2p caught some by suprise. The others always believe that "There's no such thing as a free meal".

So, where does that leave us? Maybe, looking for extra cash to frag someone... It could be cheaper to shoot someone IRL... and then, maybe not. :D

Before I handed over my cash to Nildram for ADSL I gave 'em a call and asked specifically what the score was if I wanted to run games servers. They told me I could do what I liked with the connection within reason, obviously no commercial stuff. So, right now I have two Q2 servers, Roger Wilco and a web-server running

I know a company whos Exchange Server was hacked through their firewall. They sent spam from it and the ISP was forced to close its email for everyone of their customers. :)
