The word "utterly" is utterly overused on this forum, and 9 times out of 10 it's utterly unnecessary. Gnnngh! :/

The bottom line is that fast food restaurants aren't responsible for educating the nation on how to eat a healthy diet and as such it'll be chucked out of court in a flash.

It's like expecting Volvo to educate you on how not to step out in front of a moving car - "i always thought it was good for me!"

Depends if they try and swing the 'misleading advertising' line. Not that that one's been desperately successful for the smoking lawsuits until recently...

Why do the Americans keep comming up with silly reasons for suing people? What lawyers over there think they have a chance?
Such a waste of time and money printing this shite

What you are seeing is the Americans finally coming to terms with the fact they they basicall eat too much, for years the diet has been analyzed and various studies (probably sponsered by American food companies) point to a variety of substances that cause obesity.

"A calorie is a calorie" is the quote from this interesting article, no matter how much you dress up food, no matter how much fat, sugar, carbs, etc, whether it is celery or burgers, eat too much of it and you will get fat.

Obesity is a big issue in America right now, airlines have started charging double for the two seats the fatties need in the plane, but the good of old American attitude of "its not my fault" means they always look to something else to blame.

Whereas the tobacco companies _had_ been fudging the issue of smoking related disease for years, I somehow doubt the same accusation can be levelled at fast-food companies.

Well Said.

But do you know? The calories you burn eating and digesting celery is more than the calorific value of celery its self. SO you cant actually put on weight by eating too much celery (to a certain extent).

Hmm... if you eat four tonnes of celery you will weigh four tonnes more than when you started. You will also be dead.
