seriously,

how do you guys who live in London get to and from work in the rush hour without commiting wholesale slaughter??

Had to head in today for a meeting at the houses of parliament (oo get me :) ) and the bloody tubes mental. Maybe its my sheltered rural lifestyle, got on the tube and thought blimey quite crowded on here, then another 40 people got it, it was like the tardis im still not sure how they all packed in. must all be a friendly lot after a while. I had some bloke pressed up behind me and had a nice chat with the girl whose rack i was pinned by from the other side, I've been less intimate with women ive slept with than i was pressed against her.... haha

it would take me a loooong while to get used to the every day without being a surly angry bastard by the time i got to work

I used to do quite well thanks!
I had a seat to and from work every day and I lived in zone 2.

Now I get the train and live in zone 4 and I still get a seat most days.

Sounds really weird and controlled and futuristic and scary when you say you live in 'zones'

I can only presume you get used to it and it becomes a necessary evil of working in London.

The tube is one of the worst places to be at rush hour, it's disgusting but it mostly works.

London needs evacuating for 3 months, get every builder in the world to London, and rebuild the transport network from scratch.

Actually, to be fair, I'm pretty surprised there's no major mono-rails going around

They are tube and train zones. The further out you go the more it costs you to travel. Zone 1 is the centre.

If you don't use public transport you wouldn't talk in terms of zones! You would talk about boroughs instead.

I prefer zones, it's easier.

Do those who live in Zone 1 get hot water and everyone else doesn't?

I press myself into a tube every morning. It's pretty painful and I have become a bit of a surly bastard.

Then there's the fact that my Tube line is faulting almost every morning lately - it's like they saved it all up for after the Olympics.

As soon as I finish my current job rotation and can switch out I'm going to move out of London - I grew up in the countryside and London isn't worth the stress, nor the fact that my actually-quite-good-salary-and-hard-work means I'm still fucking poor :)

I think the regulars don't talk, make eye contact or smile, they seldom breathe and they frown upon seeing any human action.

They are the embodiment of all that is zombie, it's only a matter of time before they will want your brains.

I really REALLY hate travelling on the Tube unless the carriage is mostly empty (in which case the journey is cheap and quick, fine). But when its crowded & hot, its horrendous. Late night I absolutely refuse to get on one. I'd sooner either drive & not drink, or hop in a black cab. The people you get on them. Jeez. Stinky bastards, noisy bastards, drunks, people eating burgers, that lunatic with the fixed stare with one hand in his jacket, annoying tourists, City wankers bragging about bollocks, cunts with music volume so loud you can hear it 4 seats away.
