History of Trance:
A semi nice guide is available here about the history of the genre, Ignore the songs at the bottom as some are crap..Dunno what kinda shit the guy who wrote it listens too but nm the history of the music is quite good.

Radio:
Possibly the best way to get into Trance and indeed various forms of dance music is through Internet radio stations. Actual radio stations shy away from what isn't popular and main stream and as a result the genre as been getting less and less "air time" in recent years. Below are some of the best internet Radio stations I know
ETN.FM
www.etn.fm
ETN FM is one of my most listened too stations, it has 3 channels; Trance | Progressive | Various.
The streams are available in multiple formats and up to 192kbp/s apart from the various streams in which you need winamp and the top is 96kbp/s. ETN hosts shows from some of the worlds biggest DJ's from the Progressive sounds of Perry o Neal to the clubbing beats of Agnelli & Nelson.
I recommend Thursday nights, with DJ's like Freezel and Cor Finjman on the decks.
DI.FM
www.di.fm
DI.fm is probably the biggest dance music station on the internet. They host streams for multiple dance genres, However to get any stream above 96kbp/s there is a subscription for $4.99/month, however the 96kbp/s stream is free.
I recommend Armin Van Buurens Radio Show on Thursdays at 8pm GMT. The worlds Number 1 DJ spins all the latest tracks from clubland, and its a great listen, defiantly look out for his end of year mixes...fucking amazing.
DJ's
Some of the best DJ's (imo) I have listed below, these DJ's play various styles of Trance from soft mellow laid back beats to hard edged club tunes.
Armin Van Buuren
- The worlds BIGGEST DJ, plays Clubbing tunes on his radio show and hes fucking lush live. Check out his "A state of trance" albums from the last two years as they have been pretty good. Has a weekly radio show "A state of Trance" on www.di.fm Thursday nights at 8pm GMT.
Marco V
- The man from Italy Marco V, a very experienced DJ with several productions under his belt. Plays Hard Trance with deep hard beats.
Maurio Piccoto
- Similar style to Marco V..fucking amazing when I saw him live..dropping Nivana - Smells like teen spirit into a fat beated tune..fucking went nuts.
John o Callaghan
- This Irish DJ is bloody great, he plays anywhere from proggy tunes to clubbing melodies. You can catch John O Callaghan on ETN.FM..check out the listings.
John O Bir
- For all you Progressive fans John O Bir is a fucking God..Also has a fortnightly show on ETN.FM
Agnelli & Nelson
- Irish duo, amazing producers and DJ's seeing them 1st of July @ crasher in Bristol..cant fucking wait!
Cor Finjman
- DJ from the Nordic regions has a weekly show on ETN.FM but it clashes with Armin Van Buurens :|. He tends to have a more vocal style to his track selection.
Ferry Corsten
- Amazing DJ with a long and varied history, you can catch ferry under many names..the amazing Gouryella(with Van Buuren and Teisto) catch any of his sets you can..and try and pick up his CD's. The Album "Right of way" is a good choice for anyone listening for some good tunes.
Tiesto
- Now a lot has to be said for Tiesto, he is the most well known DJ in the world. Tiesto has shit mixing ability and in times dire tune selection, however a newbie to trance would probably want to get Tiesto sets, Tiesto is a great entry point to the world of Trance.
Producers
While I am not going to name individual tracks for the moment I will name producers to look out for. I will name them and any other names I know them by (It is not uncommon for DJ's to have a different alias for different styles of music)
Ferry Corsten (Fmassive, Gouryella) - Tracks to get: "Gouryella - Gouryella", "Fmassiv - do you want me", and any of the tracks from the album "Right of way" & "Sweet Sorrow (Thrillseekers remix)"
Perry O Neal - Great if you're into the more prog sound.
John O Callaghan - Tunes like: John O Callaghan - Mercury, John O Callaghan - Like a ray
Above & Beyond - Although they can be a bit "poppy" sometimes its defiantly worth checking out tracks like Air of Life, No one on earth and surrender.
Active Sight - Fucking everything by Active sight is ace..look out for tracks like Tears of Joy & Take each day as it comes.
Ayumi Hamasaki: Only seen one track from this guy, but I am sure it is an alias for someone else..check out the track "Appears (Kyau vs. Albert Dub Mix)"
Art of Trance - "Mongoose" and "Madagascar"
Carl b - "All Day"
DJ Governor - Shit name great tracks.. such as "red woods"
Tiesto - Amazing tracks in the old days .. my favorite tune of all time "Suburban Train" "Flight 643" & "Walking on clouds" are a few to look out for.
Dogzilla - Tough beats with male vocals...check out "With out you" and "Your Eyes"
Endre - "i'd kill for you" and defiantly check out Endre - Kallocain (Robert nickson remix)
