The third place....

Ok, I've been casting my eye over the progress in all three of the Third Gen Consoles - namely the PS2, Gamecube and the XBox.

Now they all look incredibly impressive. And I mean that. At the moment there doesn't seem to be the distinct difference in games as there was between the Saturn/PSX/N64. Nintendo aren't doing just cutesy games (Eternal Darkness.....nice!), Sony aren't just doing Tekken-esque games (Metal Gear Solid 2!) and XBox looks to have some really good original titles as well as the PC-ports (Soldier of Fortune 2!).

With news that Sega will be making games for all three platforms that allows players to compete online against opponents on other platforms (OMG! PC gamers vs GC vs X-BOX vs PS2 players in Sonic!), and not one of the consoles having problems with signing 3rd party developers (the problem that N64 had) - my question is this:-

Marketing aside, which console do you think will have the best games? I don't want to hear "XBox will fail cos its microsoft" or "PS2 is technically inferior" or "Nintendo is too cute!" - I just want people to take a look at some of the up-coming titles and tell me which they think will be the best.

I'm quite suprised, as I've come around to thinking that the PS2 will be the worst in the market! The gamecube has some absolutely corking games coming out, as does the XBox - and I don't think MGS2 and Gran Turismo 3 will be able to compensate for that by themselves.

Thoughts?

Personally, I was waiting AGES for the game HALO to come out on the PC.

Then found out that Microsoft bought the developers (Bungee) and were releasing the game on the XBOX.

Game looks stonking but to buy a console based on one game is a bit pointless.

Need to find out how many games are scheduled for release or are already available.

But then again, what do I know (eh Moving Target ? ):p

GameCube looks to be the most interesting. All the Nintendo and Sega titles on one console ? Can't beat that.

The GameCube is gonna go down the same line as the N64, aimed at kiddies.

Not sure about the XBOX, i think Microsofts newness to the console market may work against them.

PS2 will come out on top in the end.

Despite the fact I said DONT say this, its still not true.

The N64 was only aimed at kiddies because it didn't have any 3rd party developers. That is the sole reason. And that happened because they chose to work with cartridges.

The Gamecube has plenty of 3rd party developers - hence varied games.

"Rare" developed for N64, there must have been others.

PS2 impresses me more and more the more I see of it. Just watched a movie of Gran Turismo 3 in action. It was pant wettingly gorgeous.

Rare are second party developers - part owned by Nintendo (1st party developers).
