Well, during the england game, a level headed and thoughtful op, which will remain un-named until I say Stu, decided to ban *[POR*!*@* . I, as a supporter of portugal was banned from the channel along with others, merely for differing in the opinion of someone who doesn't even stay in #quake3.uk . The ban on portugal can be seen as an act of racism, singling out a specific nation and punishing them for nothing. Many of the rules that are laid out in black and white across quakenet are continually broken in quake3.uk, usually by the same person. Get rid of them.

In repsonse to Jez's statement maybe the people who reside in Quake3.uk should see a list of all the people who do have ops in quake3.uk.
Not too add more people to that list, but to weed out the people they feel should not have ops and who abuse there power.

about somethingish months ago, some ops, who now don't really throw their weight about in quake3.uk these days ( i love u all ) decided to turn quake3.uk into their perception of the perfect channel: No mp3 scripts, no constant away messages, no colours, no emotion, no conversation.

It lasted about a day and sucked royally. For those of you that remember, you know how stupid and pointless the channel was. Whatever we propose for quake3.uk HAS to be for the good of the community. It isn't just about playing q3, it's about enjoying your time in an environment where there are people with the same basic interests. Of course there's always going to be a few "QUAKEIIISUCKS" spammers ( scandinavians ) but it's just a fact of life.
Now does the community enjoy being overlorded by a selected few, who obviously don't give a shite about them, or would they rather know the people that are deemed responsible for their channel are a little more caring ?

Today I was banned for using a 'sleeping' timer which goes off every hour. I use this for logging purposes, and generally for ppl to know i'm not there. I guess it went off about 10-11 times, once per hour, not much compared to the average talker is it?
But oh no, q3 abusage of ops strikes again....

Lets face it, quake3.uk is just shit.
The amount of times I've been in there and its just pages upon pages of parts and joins.
Also, lets not forget, its a UK channel, if we want to ban portugeuse people we should, and any UK people supporting Portugal should be shot anyway (and kicked), stupid cunts.

As of 11:17 pm, 12/06/2000 I am the only person with global-owner privaleges on the bots (Sasha and Duplex). "mavis" (who is also in #quake3.uk) belongs to amok (who is coincedentally an op there also), so you would need to speak to him about who has privs. on his bot.
Stu was also a global-owner on the bots until the above time/date, since I trusted his judgement on how to operate the bots, he is also a good real-life friend of mine (funny how people are different online than they are irl). Recent events that have transpired (culminating in the global banning of anyone with "POL" in their nicknames) has caused me to have to rethink this strategy...
My policy re: the channels Sasha and Duplex are on are that I own and control #quake2.uk, and have let the other channels remain under the control of their respective owners, with absolutely no influence on them. If anyone can think of any instance where I have come onto a channel other than #quake2.uk and "thrown my weight around" I would be grateful if they would tell me - I'm pretty sure there has been no instance of this...
Pumpkin is officially the channel "owner" on #quake3.uk - who he appoints and who he has appointed is a matter for him, not me - therefore if you have any issues with actual #quake3.uk ops (ie. not people abusing their global privaleges), please speak to him about it.

Community channels are effectively "owned" by the community, but "administered" by those individuals who:

It's worth noting that "democracy" is, to coin a famous adage, "facism with a pretty face". In this respect #quake3.uk (and indeed the other community channels) are very much like our own government - a group of individuals charged with taking the necessary day-to-day decisions & actions to keep the system running smoothly..
..or in the case of last night, not so smoothly.

I've been in #quake3.uk since it pretty much started. The long days of about 10-15 ppl in the chan and the long conversations with Fyre and Wils about absolutly nothing (and pies!) and carla telling us how wonderful q3 is before we got to play it .
There has to be a certain administrative charge to the channel or it will get abused. Ppl will sit there and spam all day if they could. It gets annoying when ppl come into the chan with there "alladvantage" referels and "join my clan/channel/gay lesbo club" and just as bad that someones lame script goes off every hour telling us they are tucked up in bed. Whats wrong with a nick change? If someone is too spanner like to realise that you are'nt there if your nick is "IAMAWALRUS|AWAY" then they probably are'nt worth talking too.
Perhaps the op list should be reviewed as quite a few of the original ops are never around (during the day at least) cutting the list down to 2-3 individuals who frequent the channel and uphold some sort of order, sometimes there are no ops in the channel whatsoever.

Normally, I have NO involvement with #quake3.uk WHATSOEVER. I've never really taken any active involvement in it, and I doubt I've even been in there for weeks, if not months.
The ban was set last night to get rid of a lot of spamming idiots in #quake2.uk. I, in my haste, set a global ban - my mistake entirely, I admit. With the "new" code running on Duplex and Sasha you can no longer "nameban" like you used to be able to from a public command, so it has to be done from partyline: I failed to notice that I hadn't added a #quake2.uk argument.
It had nothing to do with racism, I just wanted to shut the spammers up who were annoying the rest of the channel. The people spamming with an [ENG] tag were also about to be banned, until I was distracted by something else. It was not my intention to affect #quake3.uk (or any other channels) in any way shape or form.
To Jez, Stoned, Viper, I'd say, if you'd actually come to me and told me that the ban had been set at the time in #quake3.uk, I would have removed it instantly. In fact, curium came into #quake2.uk after the game and told me, this was the first occasion I had actually learned that the ban had been cross set (at which point it was largely immaterial, as the ban had already been removed by myself, it having achieved its aims of shutting up the people who were spamming the channel).
To Stamper, Stoned, Jez, Stamper (again): I have nothing to do with any of the other incidents in #quake3.uk. Like I said, it was not my intention to affect #quake3.uk (or any channels outside of #quake2.uk) in any way. Like Daz has said, Pumpkin is the channel owner in #quake3.uk. Any ops in there have been chosen by him (or previously by Carla): neither myself or Daz have had any hand in it.
