but would you agree to "us" asking the [ahem] administration to either hold a referendum [in the form of a poll for example] asking us to vote on the removal of the "postcount" widget, or to have the widget removed by the admins without a poll?

I reckon posts counts are a good thing as long as you dont get too exited about them.
