I dunno if this has been discussed in the football blah blah thread.. really cant be arsed to trawl thru it all. but here's my take on it anyway.

Jason roberts on 606 last weekend saying about how paul ince had to start at macclesfield, yet his team mate roy keane started at sunderland... RACISM!!

no? keane played alongside the sunderland chairman niall quinn.. jobs for his mates.. not racism..

he then went on to say.. andy cole didnt even bother finishing his coaching badges because he couldnt get an interview for a managerial post..

andy cole..

ANDY FUCKING COLE? he cant string a sentence together never mind manage a football team.

if football WAS racist in terms of employment.. would there be something like 25% of premiership players of african origin in premiership? christ.. there's even loads in russian football now.

roberts and barrett keep quoting american football.. but thats a totally different game. guys like art shell didnt just get the job overnight of headcoach, they proved themselves first as defensive coach etc... but here we get people bleating on about how football is racist at top levels.

well thats just bollocks tbh. newcastle didnt have a black player until franz carr.. toon were considered racist for that.. yet we've had 2 black managers.. and ok i'll admit the sacking of chris hughton was odd.. but it had nothing to do with race.. again it was a chairman hiring his mate instead. while ruud gullit was just shit.

always being said in media.. oh scottish managers are great in premier league..well thats racist too surely? we need more welsh managers then.. more from cornwall too.. more managers called bob... more disabled managers.. it will never stop.

dont see people banging on about there not being any players other than michael chopra in the leagues from subcontinent heritage do you? thats because, by their own admission.. they are shit at football.. hey so are giraffes.. so lets get a fucking giraffe into a team as well.

end this madness. you either deserve the job on merit or you dont. its got nothing to do with race.

...and the Rooney rule just ensures that black candidates get an interview, not the job, so I don't see what the issue is.

Hmm... why are you focusing on black people? I thought the rule was for equality in football, so that people of all races and both sexes are considered for interviews?

As I understood it, part of this is to break the stranglehold of old white boys at the top of the FA - which you'd be stupid to try and say does not exist.

Why not? If they can stand toe to toe with men.

Or are you afraid that your machonuts will shrivel when a woman makes a goal? :p

Les ferdinand summed it up perfectly well on Goals on Sunday. Having the rule is one thing, but most clubs already have a candidate for the job in the first place, they in turn bring in their own staff. Interviews are quite rare nowadays.

With regards to American football, I agree you cannot even compare it, most of the head coaches have all served time as players, and then college coaches, defensive, offensive, special teams coach before being given a sniff at head coach. Even then when a vacancy is available they have a shortlist of candidates that they will interview. And as I said above there is very rarely 3-4 people interviewed for a vacant football managers position.

It was also quite interesting that the FA are playing hard ball with him and Tim Sherwood, both players coach for 3 hours + a day at Spurs, yet the FA will not qualify them as they have to coach an hour a day over twelve days at an FA centre in Reading.

Wouldn't you think the FA would have a some sort of mobile system whereby ex pro's still working in the game with various teams could be monitored in order to get them the badges??

Completely agree with Ch3t, the focus should be on equality not just the black guy!

Paul Ince wasn't exactly a good manager at Blackburn though was he.

I hope football doesn't go the equality way in which the police did, recruiting people of lesser race to make statistics look good. They should employ people who do their job the best, and if it happens to be a white manager, then so be it.

Why not? If they can stand toe to toe with men.

If skill were the only factor, they can.

But i personally wouldn't like this.

Not because of any resentments towards females, but because i like watching female football more then male football recently.

Female footballers rely more on actual skill, male footballers seems to rely just as much on skill as on how much they can trick the refs in to giving them unjustified penalty shots...

Apart from the goal keeps ofc, they are all abysmal!

haha I didn't mean it like that .. just read what I wrote and started laughing. People of "another" race ;)

So you're saying that football is a white mans sport and "other races" aren't by default included in this kicking of a black&white(irony) ball?
