Got speeding ticket through post, 36 in a 30, it was a little village on the way home from Cornwall on the Launceston road.
So I google it and find the village speed watching community Facebook page who have campaigned to reduce the limit to 30 from 40, they have the Launceston police facebook page (yes how weird) and I 'm reading the threads and it was a mobile camera and the operator gave out her email address to one of the villagers.
I'm so tempted to to flame the bitch, but it probably wouldn't be a good idea.

So you committed a crime, got caught and fined and are pissy about it? :p

Yes, fair cop, I must just suggest they look into updating mobile cameras in real time and streaming the info to satnav's, then i'd get the little beep to slow me down, which is 10x better than waiting and fining, you know so the traffic is actually going slower.
I'm sure this will happen quite soon, probably make the recievers compulsory.
It backs up my theory 'Handy today, compulsory tomorrow'

The idea of speed cameras is to get you to do the speed limit along the whole road network not just when your sat nav bleeps telling you that you're about to get caught. That's why I think they should be allowed to hide cameras and use un marked vans.

Of course that would be the next step and the last government suggested it on the back of road tolling by gps, we would all probably get around quicker with big brother controlling the traffic, but of course 'premium' travel would follow on and the rich would swan around while the poor would be stuck in traffic.

Speed cameras don't stop speeders, they just catch people who forget they are there, the average speed on'e work a treat though, which is a kind of poor man's gps monitoring.

Unlucky dude, happens to a lot of us.

I was coming home up the motorway once at around midnight (chilling out at around 60 mph I may add), not another car to be seen, went through some temporary roadworks with a temporary 40 mph limit and went through a temporary speed trap. 63 mph in a 40 mph.

Meh, paid the fine, took the points.

Most illogical rule ever, to have to advertise where the speed cameras are... >.<

I know I never understood that. If you mug someone and get caught on CCTV you can't get the convition overturned because the camera was not bright yellow so I don't get why it works for speeders.

Because you could argue that if you were in an area you don't know, last sign you saw was 40 before hitting a 30 limit then get flashed.

I agree completely, I think they should be alot more random and not yellow at all though in a way, shouldn't let people speed up to them, slow down, then speed off again.

The thing I have a problem with is the fact you can get away with speeding if the camera / van is not clearly marked. I don't mind appeals for other reasons such as going to hospital.

I would get rid of all fixed camera and just use mobile un marked vans if they could be on any road you drive on you will need to adjust your driving style.

The idea of speed cameras is to make money.

I don't know why ppl get so pissy about getting caught speeding. Its your own fucking fault. You don't want the points, don't speed. Its simple. It really is.

If every time you got flashed you got a £200 ticket and no points, I might agree with you but points should mean you only get caught 4 times. Which is short sited if the aim is to make money.

Incorrect I'm afraid.

More points = higher insurance = more revenue for the government.

Speed cameras do not make a scrap of difference to safety, the authorities could not give a flying fuck if we all crash into each other and wind up in a flaming fireball.

It is a con, a lie, it is simply another excuse for a tax, much like the global warming (which is now called climate change due to the globe not actually warming beyond that of its natural cycle) bullshit excuse to bump up the cost of....well.......everything.

And the best way to escape that is by not speeding.

It's so simple i don't understand why so few people get it...

I didn't argue against that did I?

What I am saying is that their reason for having speed cameras is a lie, yes if you don't want to get caught don't speed, after all the 50 (give or take) year old 70mph motorway limit is more than enough isn't it?

:/

If they increased the motorway speed limit to 100mph big lorries would still be a lot slower and when they just pull out to overtake rather than needing to drop 10mph you need to drop 40. And that could make things a lot messier. The sooner motorways are computer controlled the better proper gaps everything going the same speed everyone gets there quicker and safer.

cars may have better technology and be able to piss 70mph in first gear, but the ppl who will be driving at these ever higher motorway speed limits are the same. Until they make driving at speed a mandatory part of the test - and not just 10 mins on a motorway - advanced driving at speed in the wet dealing with skids. Have you seen the idiots on our roads nowadays? I wouldn't give some of them a Tonka toy!
