Ofcourse I had heard that starcraft was very big in korea, but I'd never really seen anything about it.

Its been a while since I last played starcraft reguarly, but it seems that its still going strong in korea - the video in the link shows a video of a match between two players - it looks like a cross between the WWF thing my brother used to watch and match of the day.

Really good play, but still interesting to watch just to see how the people react to it - cheering like they're at a football match or something, they even have commentators!

Its a little bit 'robotwars', in that the crowds there are not as big as a football match or anything, but from what I hear in korea there are several TV channels dedicated to games playing and matches like this - which millions of people watch regularly.

There was an article in PC gamer a while back about the korean gaming culture, really interesting (heres the link incase anyones interested http://rossignol.cream.org/?p=284), saying about how and why things have developed differently over there.

I for one am really interested by all this - I get the impression that a few of people I know regard me as a little eccentric because of my interest in computers (or more specifically computer games). I think most people think of it as a bit childish, but over there its a national sport, these people are getting paid hundreds of thousands of pounds to play games professionally, I heard that alot of people even regard the more famous starcraft players as role models for thier kids!
