The gfx engine.

I know many have this problem.. but what I dont know is that does anyone know a solution for this:

When casting an AE spell, the screen lags very very badly. I mean, the spell can bring Ahtlon xp 1700+(512MB DDR) and Geforce4 ti4600(128MB DDR) to its knees for several seconds (long enough to get you killed). Thats just pathetic from the gfx engine.

I can run the game in 1600x1200 very smoothly but that one spell lags the whole game. I tried that in 800x600 with same effects. Something is really wrong there.. It happened with my geforce2 ultra too.

I've tried different drivers with no success. I know the new graphics engine is on its way (and looks stunning) but erh.. if things go as they have gone, it will reach euro version in late 2009 or something ;)..

/effects none/self will work but that kind of ruins the whole thing. If my hardware is not enough then the coders have failed.

I dont know about other spells but I use fire and it lags like hell.

TIA

The same thing happens every now and then with my ice wizards pbae and ae dd spells. The whole game can freeze for 2-3 seconds. I have sometimes died solely because of that :(

I use 1024x768 resolution on a Duron800, 768mb, Geforce2 GTS 32mb.

That happens to me on a similar specced machine, but only in RvR when it's already overstressed... it really can't cope with large numbers of people well :)

If it's happening to you in PvE I really would recommend turning the effects off. It may not look so pretty, but I'd rather stay alive than see pretty things

the gfx engine just suck, it was bought and that means they didnt code it so it should fit into the game.

Mmm, what is really bad (IMO) is that this game is for RvR and when in RvR gfx lags bad, I can't use effects as that has locked up my comp for ~30sec. Hopefully that will all change when they change the 3d-engine, but when that will happen remains to be seen. So untill then I RvR with /effects self (or none) and names off.

u shouldnt knock this engine guys, it really rocks, we use a 3d french engine in work and tested others, we had major fps problems when showing more than 24 chars on screen at the same time, my respects to the engine developers, im mightaly impressed by the amount of characters/particle effects/networking/landscape and general polygon count in a good resolution. my only gripe is that it wont run in windows but eh, bugger it

FPS generally is ok for me, the problem is the infamous "fps bug". Game starts to slow down over time, the more stuff on screen, the faster the slowing happens. I got an ok pc with Radeon 8500 and in large RvR situations, the slowing down starts after about 1 min of gameplay. Before that, everything is ok.

The main problem with the netimmerse engine in DAoC is that it draws everything at full detail, from the guy standing right next to you, to that oteher blokey halfway across the screen. Good engine, just implemented weirdly.

I dunno about the new engine. I've got Morrowind which uses the same new engine and its just as slow. What a waste of time.

Lathoniel, I have no respect to this engine, is one of the worst Ive ever seen. It cant handle lots of particle effects at the same time (AEs in PvE freezes computer sometimes, and in RvR is a lot worse), it cant handle high polygon counts, when you see 20+ ppl the game starts to lag and in large scale battles the performance of the engine is laughable. Gfx arent so good either, Anarchy Online's engine quality wise is by far a lot better. And then we have also the memory leak bug, the one that slows down the game gradually until being unplayable crashing daoc in the end.

Gfx engine needs a serious upgrade, maybe the one of the expansion works better.
