The scenery was so flat and the graphics bland and blocky.

The only way this will get acclaim is if the Sony fanboys think it plays better than GTA3 or VC. Not much chance of that.


Also - I know the area represented in the game v well so can appreciate it a bit more - but how many buyers do?


I see the word "Flop" appearing in reviews for this game.

its not the best game in world i agree but as i was too expecting a total load of cack. i was suprised when i started to enjoy it.

Whereas in my case, after all the hype and shit (including those mocked up in game screenshots ), I was expecting something groundbreaking.

Played the demo too, ruined by the lack of any lighting, it all looked grey and flat, a damned shame, lighting would have made one hell of a difference.

THey should avoid close ups on characters and levels in the cutscenes too.

As its developed by Sony, I really rather doubt it.


What I have seen of it looks pretty good, and I think I'll pick it up in the New Year.

I agree with Ono, unless you know the area the game loses some if its excitement. we were gonna buy it but it got a shite write up in PSW so we didn't bother. obviously it can't compare to GTA Vice City. am concerned about the driving on it and apprently the shooting is a bit dodgy as well. no denying the TV ads for it are great tho.

I have it

The driving is superb and the cars handle as realisticly as they can with these games. They have a license to use real cars which makes rapping a nice new TVR or Accord r-type around a lamp post brilliant fun.

I don't see any problem with the shooting as such although the camera angles are sometimes a little suspect.

All in all it's a must have for any ps2 owner who likes a bit of mixed action in a game.

It's no vice city but it never claimed to be or even tried to be. It's a different sort of game that's immensly fun.

Like yaka said... you'll either love it or hate it.

Seems pretty damn good so far, only irritating thing is that you cant restart missions halfway through. When you start playing it and wrap your Alfa round a tree it gets a tad annoying waiting for the bad guys to be "lost".


Otherwise, I like. It did lock my PS2 up completely, but the ventilation holes are clogged up with fur and PS2 had been on for 3 days straight so I'm guessing that's a heat issue. Other games have been doing weird things aswell, after 2 years of misuse I think the old PS2 needs a bit of a cleanout.

open it up get some comprees air cans and give the fan area a good blast, dont think you would need to remove the mobo and dvd drive.

Roughly translated - It's a PS2 game, so I will never ever like it. Sony are the devil cos they make my beloved Nintendo and Sega look shit.

Anyway, now I've read tha manual, the issue I brought up earlier is less of a problem as I found out you can just get out of the Alfa and nick something else. The control method for the shooting bits takes a bit of getting used to but overall The Getaway seems a pretty fucking good game.

All I can say is "it fucking damn well is"

Try out the Lexus is200, Accord and Civic R-Types and the TVR. Bloody good fun and pretty realistic... although I haven't driven down oxford street at 90 so I have nothing to compare it to.


The more free roaming missions do the game more justice tbh.

This game seems to get better the more you play it. I am however stuck now and if anyone else has done this bit I'd appreciate a little help.

Mission 5 I think. I have to sneak around Charlie's warehouse and find the kid. All the doors are guarded and if I try pistol whipping ot shooting th guards I get rumbled. I am at a complete loss as to what I'm supposed to be doing.
