Sony Online Entertainment's Raph Koster and former EA executive Lars Butler have declared that online gaming will revolutionise the industry - and that those who don't keep up will get left behind.
I remember sitting on a panel discussion at Milia (a big new Media event in Cannes) back in 2001. It was exactly the same time we were buying BW, and I was sat on the same panel as Colin Duffy (the guy who set up Wireplay), as he said exactly what these guys were saying, "solo gaming is an aberration etc. etc." It was wierd, because I pretty much agreed with him, but couldn't really say so because I couldn't be seen to endorse Gameplay (which is ironic given many subsequent events).
Colin Duffy was right back in 2001, and online gaming and online delivery are going to change everything in the next few years. Its just that back then we were too far ahead of the market.
