It's a painfully dull argment and apparently unavoidable as proven by just about every other forum catering to WAR discussions.

No one cares, it's been done to death, please oh please don't let this board turn into another flame fest like all the other WAR forums.

Can we, just for once, talk about the game without comparing it to WoW?

haha! totally agree!

i like mythic, and seen they destroyed daoc and then actually REBUILD IT! (well.. imo... the last 6 months.. maybe..). Daoc got a facinating PVP system, Mythic KNOWS how to make a good pvp system, and ofc i dont expect it to be the same as in daoc, caus they cant make a new daoc just with a new story and graphic!

Seen SS from the game tho, i must say.. i have seen the graphic in another game.. WoW, well thisone is a alot improved tho.. Wont start to compare things caus that will spoil the fun in actually talk about the game and only turn into whine, whine and utter whine!!

But what i DO want to see, is that this game will compete agains WoW in marketing! thats with no doubt! I know those HORRIBLE WoW fans will never leave the game, well good for them! just good for them! Caus i wont play with someone (not hanging out here! NO WHINE REMEMBER) that gonna compare EVERYTHING in the game with WoW, becaus there you can ditt and datt etc..

all i can say! Keep up the goodwork Mythic, make us and GW proud!

I hope mythic take a good long look at wow when developing this game. There are some aspects of wow that really do demolish DAOC pve wise. PVP - well there's no argument there. DAOC is still (for me) the best example of consensual pvp in the world of mmorpgs. Nobody has come close to equalling the thrill of your first relic raid or the sheer chaos that was the run to safety.

Equally - nobody - despite lots of attempts - has come close to equalling the tension and fun of fg vs fg roaming.

It's just a shame that toa ruined the game for me. Still I hope to meet all my old daoc mates again when this goes live.

Those WAR screenshots just depict how the characters are represented in the tabletop game. Goblins are supposed to be a jokey race for example. And like you say i think worldcraft took a lot of ideas from WH to start with.

Urm, no, those are screenshots released by Mythic for Warhammer Age of Reckoning and have nothing to do with the tabletop game. They were done to show people how the WAR models don't actually look like the WoW models at all by a guy at Warhammer Alliance.

As for the IPs, lets just say Blizzard were developing something they hoped would be the Warhammer licence RTS game and Games Workshop said no.
Funnily they released Warcraft: Orcs and Humans not long afterward, which bares more than a slight resemblence to the Warhammer world.

Oh, as an aside, goblins and orcs weren't green until Warhammer. Most other references to them have them as being brown/blackish colour. It was a painter at GW who first painted a set of orcs green and created the 'greenskins' we know and love.
There's an article somewhere that appeared in White Dwarf but needless to say I can't find the link to it at the moment.

Hehe you make it sound like GW are sooo original.. they pinched all their ideas off Tolkien. And as for that Tolkien dude, well he nabbed all his ideas, places and even names from Norse/Celt mythology.... so who has the copyright on those?

Mythic made all of the primary mistakes that shape how they, as a firm, develop a MMO with DAOC and tbh its turned out a much better game for it. If EA give mythic half a chance to do things right Warhammer will walk all over WoW when it comes to playability and the endgame experience. If Warhammer's endgame is half as good as DAOC's rvr it will be a fanatical success.

As for the "OMG ITS WoW!" argument, the engine used in WoW is pure 100% Japanese cartoon bollocks designed for developing markets, China anyone?, whereas Warhammer has a hardcore but beautiful look that just awe's me. When i look at the sheer level of detail put in to some of the characters and environments its staggering and IMO the screen shots look more polished then the trailer.

The only game that can come close to delivering the sheer scale and detail in an MMO environment is EVE-Online and that says an awful lot considering that the engine is over 3 years old. All i want to see now are the minimum specs so i can re-mortgage my house to prepare for it All we can do is hope that EA don't try to overly commercialize the game and release it before its been thoroughly tested. I for one, cant wait.

Bit harsh tbh, the guy was just saying that he doesnt care what the graphics are like, he just wants a game with good pvp as in his opinion no game other than DAoC has decent pvp....it's his opinion and many would agree.
