Everytime I go into My Documents, it'll come up with this error after a while. I've tryed searching the web for a fix to this problem, but can't find anything for it. :(

I'm using WindowsXP.

Any help would be great
Cheers!

Are you running any "extra" utilities that in some way interact with Explorer - e.g anything that's been added to browsing folders or any theming software?

Does the Event viewer give any more info? Event ID, or Category for example.

Does it happen for all profiles? If you create another user and log on as them does it still happen?

If it doesn't, and you can find no other way of resolving the problem, you could switch to another profile ... certainly easier than reinstalling the complete OS. As long as you don't immediately delete the old one, you should be able to transfer favourites over to the new profile.

Is there any difference between opening My Documents from the desktop and browsing to it via Explorer?

Does it make any difference if you change the view settings on the My Documents folder to say details, or turn on Folder Options > Use Classic Windows Folders?

As Shovel pointed out, try uninstalling any theme software or file-browsing apps. Also, if you haven't already got one, try running a virus-checker over your PC.

Also, it would be helpful if you could open up the task manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del), switch to the Processes tab and tell us which processes you have running.

No unusual proccesers, that's one of the first things I checked.

I also removed all my themeing software and restarted to see if that would help, no result.

Strangly enough, I switched from "Thumbnail" view to "Tiles" and it works fine -- My Documents being the only folder to get the error with "Thumbnail" viewing on.

Hmmmmmm, strange...

Cheers anyway guys, at least I've stoped it crashing Explorer now. ^^;

maybe its one of the images in there? Try putting one image in a different folder and viewing in thumbnail view.

You could try resetting the folder view options.

If you go to a folder that works, and set its view options as you wish them to be, the choose "Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Apply to all folders".

Or, maybe better still: Do a search for "desktop.ini" in the My Documents folder. It's a hidden/system file, so remember to say so in the search options.
Deleting that file should force Windows to reset the view settings for "My Documents" to some defaults and might clear the error.
