With the ECTFL on the horizon, the temperature is rising. An enormous crowd has followed the last few weeks’ games, with the Swed vs Eng game topping the list with a staggering 400 listeners (broadcasted via Shoutcast). Tonight one of the final preparations were made, namely the drawing the poules. And they are (drum role):
Poule one presents a strong central European basis, with the first seeded France facing strong competition from Holland, and outsiders Italy. Group 1 also consists of Denmark and Switzerland, and although they might seem incapable of causing any major upsets they aren’t to be taken lightly.
Poule two can expect a few very emotional and vigorous battles, as favorites England is set to face UK “companions” Scotland and Ireland. We also see Austria, who might be able to instigate one or two “giant-slayings”.
Poule three sees title challengers Finland, and Sweden, who are favorites to grab the two top spots. Israel, Wales and Iceland can hopefully challenge, but the momentum created by the top nations will most likely hinder this.
Poule four favorites are without any uncertainty Germany, but when it comes to the runners up spot it’s a very open affair. Norway, Belgium and Portugal all have a reasonable chance to progress to the later stages of the tournament.
