Ok, so I've done lazer eye surgery. Well yesterday I added to my "been there, done that" list of medical procedures as I underwent an arthroscopy on my left knee. General anasthetic is a mind fuck, I had no idea it is so easy to totally knock somebody unconscious. It's painful as smeg and the bastards have shaved the tinyest bit of hair off around my knee... which makes it look fucking rediclious.

I'm having a good week :(

This thread has sparked a memory for me.
I was in hospital and had to be put under general anaesthetic when i was 8/9 years old, and I remember running out of numbers, on the bed, in the theatre, surrounded by men in green waiting to do their thing. All dribbling and grinning and stuff, waving knives and other shiny metal things about. Or at least that's how I remember it.

:(

I had the exact same as you Myst, about 2 years ago now. Got a kickass scar on my left knee now :)

I had this lump moving around in my knee, so they put me under for a general. Course, before I blacked out the fuckers took one of the biggest needles I think I've ever seen and stabbed the lump to hold it in place. I then passed out.

Makes me ill just thinking of it. :puke:

Anyhoo, I feel for you buddy. What stupid thing did you do when you started to come out of it?

Had 3 operations on my shoulder, each time I play the fun game of how long can I stay awake, on the second one they had to tell me to go to sleep and stop fighting it, made me giggle that one! :) the first one all I remember is watching this picture on the wall, and then it kinda just wobbled a bit and then it was black...it was coool!

Anyone remember the news story (ages ago) about some Spanish dude who hypnotised people instead of using a general anaesthetic? As long as you could brave the noises the recovery was much quicker - less risk too etc. I don't like the idea of handing your life support over to an anaesthetist for a simple operation! (ex-gf was a nurse...scary/sexy at the same time!)

Remember having the needle anestetic for a few ingrowin toenails i had... just remembered all the white suits around me (was about 10)... and then *bam* within 2seconds i was in a ward.

Didnt feel any sickness.

They went to get tooth taken out... This time i chose "Cherry flavored gas". Hmmm. Lovely. Woke up, well, then fell back asleep because it fucked with my head. Was sick for ages after it :/

I had General a few years ago when i had 8 teeth removed (that was in the days when they would give general for teeth removal)

I remember breathing in the gas then going a bit groggy, then hearing my dad say "this is the second time i have to wake him up today", then i remember feeling like shit, and my head swimming.

I couldn't help "tounging the hole" in my gums where the teeth had been, felt weird but couldn't help myself :p

Still i had a great trick of sticking a biro between my teeth touching my lips at the back, and closing my teeth and mouth and being able to spin it about.

Thats the bonus of having 2 teeth taken out on each side, top and bottom too.

I still have the teeth somewhere :p

I had a general to have my wisdom teeth removed. They asked me to sing a song...so I said "I'm not sure you want mmm....."

When I woke up from it the nurse said I looked rather "green" and asked if I wanted an enema!! I politely declined the kind offer of having someone ram something up me...

My teeth were so deeply rooted I was in pain for about 4 days afterwards. I could hardly eat anything solid.

I want to get that eye surgery...I think I need to investigate it again.

Was put under by gas to have my arm fixed when I was a little kid (Nasty compund fracture, dislocated shoulder and knackered elbow - Don't ask). Can honestly say it was one of the nastiest experiences of my life.

General by injection is much nicer. Needed to have and abscess removed from my knee so under I went. Thing is, I'd done rather a lot of 'wake-up' powder the night before. This was probably a bit mis-guided but what the hell.

The anesthetist told me to 'count to ten'. I think I managed to get to about 40 before they realised that it was going to take a bit more to knock me out. They were not impressed......

Oh, and I seem to react really badly to waking up after a general. Last time I tried to clobber one of the doctors as I was coming round. Had no idea what was going on tbh. Just remember them holding me down and telling me to relax. Wierd stuff.

Edit: Gumbo that is EXTREMELY HORRIBLE. :)

I had two operations on my left ear when I was a kid for a perforated ear drum (I can still blow air through it but the doctors insist it's fully closed up).

The first operation I had gas and woke up feeling rough as shit. I tried sipping ribena to get my strength back but kept puking it up.

The second time they gave me and injection and put me on a drip so I woke up after the operation feeling like I'd had a nice snooze....apart from the fuck off tight bandage wrapped around my head giving me constant headaches that is.

I was put under when I was 7 or 8. It was with a gas mask for some dental work, all I remember is breathing some wierd tasting gas and then waking up very very very drowsy a few hours later.

i was put under when i was 5 or nearabouts for some teeth to be removed. I remember breathing it thinking "wtf, nothings happening" then my mum was saying our address and it started going echoey and then blackness.

Woke up later and went mad, nurse was holding me down.
