So I am doing an optional classics course this semester and they have a bit in the hand book about this being a common error.
I have been using the comma splice a hell of a lot (and I mean a LOT) over the last 20 or so years of education (some of it private) and I have never had an issue with it. Suddenly the classics department here don't seem to like it.
I guess its the difference between "accepted" grammar and "correct" grammar, and the fact most of my time is spent doing science essays and reports. Still, irksome.
Even the grammar nazis I know do it.
