Apparently it has a shite tacked-on Hollywood ending which ruins the film to an extent?

Supurb film. Just watched it and was very, very suprised.

It all seemed very paradoxical to me though. Mainly because, if he hadn't had the black outs then he wouldn't have been told ot keep a journal, then he wouldn't have used the journal to travel back in time to black himself out as a kid, leading to him being told to keep journals, that he would then read to travel back to black himself out as a kid ......
*Head Expodes* :)

I wouldn't say the ending was a full on Hollywood one. In fact, no it wasn't, so don't worry.

Wasn't that Ali Larter? Amy Smart is the lass from Road Trip.

True, but I was referring to the idea that it was Ali Larter covered in cream and not Ms. Smart. Unless they both were of course..Dear God that would be an image i'd not forget in a hurry.

Whipped, all time travel is paradoxical :) But he didn't need the journals to rewrite his memories, as when he meets his father he learns he can do it with anything that will jog his memory like a photo album.

I kinda understood it not so much as time travel, but that everything you see, hear, sense, remember is YOUR reality, with the blackouts he never experienced, he writes his own memory of that occasion and changes his reality... (it also changes everyone else's reality, but oh well ;) )

p.s. don't nest quote tags inside spoiler tags, I just found out it doesn't work :D

I went to see it on Saturday night, thought it was damn good - infinitely better than that complete S H I T E called Gothika.

I thought it was a great film, one of the best films I've seen for a long time.

I was expecting it to be bad, and part of me was almost hoping it would be because I don't particularly rate Ashton Kutcher as an actor (his whole shouty attitude on Punked wears thin very quickly), his previous films haven't really been roles that have required a huge amount of acting talent.

His performance in this film however was very good - he demonstrated a depth of character and ability to flick between different emotional states and still remain convincing.

That said, it wasn't entirely without fault imo..
The ending wasn't very good imo - I was expecting something that would tie in with his ever-increasing brain hemorrhaging that was brought about by his "memory binges". It seemed like they didn't really know how to end the film properly and so went with the obvious kitsch "everyone lives happily ever after" scenario. It would've made more sense if Evan had actually died, and by dying he actually brought everyone else together (i.e. the best outcome for the others was a result of his own worst outcome). It certainly would've been more memorable that way.
Regardless of the above there were excellent performances by all of the actors, including (and in some cases in particular) the child ones. A dark film, with rare subtle moments of comedy with a very powerful and thought-provoking message.

I found the young Tommy very scary, the bit in the cinema when he twatted that older guy....man that rocked!

I found it to be a very good film, a cross between Identity and Donnie Darko perhaps.

Why is it I can't see the post I made in this thread, or the "Angel Season 5" thread which I made last night?.. yet the icons are showing that I have made a comment, and a search for posts made by "Durzel" brings up both threads???

Watched the newly released Directors cut of this last night, and to be honest I was blown away, great acting, amazing story and a genuinly good flick, I'm not gonna put spoilers up But this is for the benefit of the guys who complained, the directors cut has 3 endings on it including the original they wanted to put on at the theatre but were blocked by New Line..

Watch it........

Very surprised by this film, it dealt with the issues it brought up well. It was well directed, and very well acted (deeply surprising given the lead star).

However, the one problem with this film was that it was farrrrr too Hollywood. Everything was answered obviously in the film for you, there was very little brain power required. Films like this usually leave some elements untouched so that the audience can fill in the gaps themselves, and ultimately enjoy the film more. This ruined my enjoyment a little, as I knew that when an enigma was produced it would be answered very quickly.

I also felt the fluttering effects when he was remembering was shit. This was a major hollywood blockbuster with a big budget, and it looked like little effort had been made for this very important effect. It suited, but just didn't look impressive.

Watched this yesterday and thought it was "ok". First of all, nothing was left to the imagination, it would have been better for them to leave a few things unresolved.

I also think it would have worked better if the possibility of it being a delusion was emphasised more.

The idea was a good one, and the beginning I thought was good. But I don't think the film lived up to it's potential. I felt a little disappointed in that to be honest.
