And there was me thinking I could enjoy an evening of peace with my little cabalist....
While the ball neared its end, Sergeant Byron approached me and asked me for a private talk. He then told me that he had met Gareth of the guild of shadows, who had muttered something about lost messages, but would only talk to another member of the guild of shadows. Byron also told me to keep it rather secret, for you never know who might be listening or interested in those scrolls.
So I grabbed my old battle brother Cawen and we two mercenaries headed over to Cotswold to meet Gareth in his room in the inn. I talked to him about his mission and he informed us that some messages of high importance had somehow gotten into the hands of the Ellyl at their ruins, and that he wanted them back. He also said we'd have to move rather fast.
I promptly informed the Knights Templar, then headed back to the ball to tell the remaining merrymakers that the guild of shadows needed their help. In the end, we assembled quite a big force in Sauvage Keep, made up of many Templars, some Utopia people and the Darkshadow couple, plus Ala from the grey company. We headed off to the Ellyl where some more Utopia guys joined us (plus some others I guess, but I quite lost count). In the end, I guess we were something between 20 and 30 people, all 40+.
We sent our infiltrators in to scout the area, and Carrain, Liste and Jupitus reported an Ellyl Loremaster in the ruins, surrounded by some spectacular lightning. After some messing around we finally lured the bugger out and killed him - he dropped some bundles of parchment, and then hell broke loose. A strange Elf called Slomean (or something) the Yellow appeared and complained he had come to late, voices in our heads told us to run before the Ellyl army would squash us, but being the brave fighters we were we stood proud - and fell. When the dust settled I counted about 10 Ellyl champions, two sages, plus some guards and villagers. We got quite a beating. Slomean the Yellow appeared again, mocked us a bit but said he'd leave us the messages.
Battered and bruised (and kindly rezzed by some adventurers nearby) we made way back to Cotswold. Gareth rewarded all those who gave him the scrolls with a lot of experience, but vanished very quickly. Then Sergeant Byron woke from our voices in his room, and met us down in the Pub. There he thanked us and assured us that we did a good job. Looks like we can expect to see more from him, Gareth and this Slomean fellow.

That was one hell of an event. I only fear that most people did not get any reward. I think only those in my group received the scrolls. I still have two of those in my backpack that I wanted to hand over to some others, but Gareth vanished really really fast. Those scrolls are worth half a bub experience at lvl 42, so quite nice. I also was not sure how many people I should have mobilized, but quickly informing the remaining ball people seemed sensible. Thanks to all who came around, thanks to Ozwaldo and co who rezzed us. Was great fun, though we all died
