Confirmed on the same bill for Sonisphere in Europe!

As a thrash metal fan this is the ultimate line up.

Lets hope for something in the UK.

finnish people are so funny, they dress in sports clothes, buy our alcohol, yell a lot, yet noone says they are chavs, they are just finnish.

but yeah, same festival but in finland - metallica and megadeth wont be there, but we will get to see motley crue, heaven and hell, and also iron maiden without fearing for my life (like i was at wacken 08 with the massive amount of people)

Actually not that many wear sports clothes, but those who do, aren't chavs :D

We buy everyones alcohol, and make our own (Terva, salmiakki and kossu), we only yell if we're pissed off(bear reference), but in general, if you're nice, we're nice to you :fluffle:

I would have been more excited about this if it had happened a couple of years ago. I don't really care about metallica or anthrax and I've seen megadeth and slayer on multiple occasions.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to hellfest in france next year, but I'd be happy seeing some 'big 4' event type thing, I just don't want to go somewhere specifically for it, cos I'm not so much into thrash metal as I used to be.

I'll probably only see this if they play somewhere in the UK...that isn't download lol

Can someone explain to me why these bands are considered good? Just curious ... ;)

You didn't answer my question. Why is this music good? What is admirable and/or likable about it? Are these particular musicians talented?

Why are you asking this?

Because I am curious.

What do you get out of it?

Knowledge.

What do you listen to?

Northern Soul, R&B (proper R&B, not rap), Motown, Doo-wop, Rockabilly, Blues, Country, anything before 1978 really (although mostly I listen to 50s-60s-early 70s music).

Why is the music you listen to good?

Because it defined the way we live our lives today. It provided all the material with which bands these days get rich from. These were not musicians, they were artisans. Can that be said for music these days? I will answer that for you; No.

Yes they are

Maybe cos they are legends of the genre?

The beatles of the metal scene if you will

Well obviously I can't speak for all metal fans but I enjoy thrash metal because of the aggression and speed of the music. It has great energy, especially when played live, and it is really good for getting the crowd going. Also I find aggressive music to be a good stress release.
The musicians vary in talent like within most music genres. In this case the worst of them can simply play guitar fast or barely keep in time (coughlarsulrichcough), all the way up to the best who are good technically capable musicians.

Your speech about artisans and whatnot sounds quite pretentious, clearly the music of today will be the influence of music in the future just like the music of the past has been an influence on the music of today.

Also it is a horrible generalisation to say 'music today' and then make any kind of claim at all as there is lots of music and musical traditions that you probably haven't even listened to or heard of. There is plenty of music post 1978 which has had a big influence (at least on me and other people I know).

Also your comment about today's musicians 'getting rich' doesn't really apply to most metal bands (well maybe the 4 mentioned in this thread are rich, but the vast majority of metal bands, even most of those that I would consider legendary, are not rich) because most metal doesn't have much mainstream appeal.

Basically, you can't turn on the tv or the radio and then make a judgement about the whole of today's music (unless you plan on excluding the majority of the music that I listen to).

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound pretentious. I actually quite like metal and thrash metal. As I said, the motive behind my question was curiousity.

only liking music until 1978 must suck, means you cant enjoy loads of nice albums from bands you otherwise might like :(
things like ac/dc's highway to hell, or led zeppelins in through the out door were released in 1979 - and that was 30 years ago. quite a lot of good music (as well as shit) has been released in that time.
oh, i also listen to older music a lot. most of my playlist is probably pre-80s music, but i cant really say a single year that nothing good came out of.

It's good because i like to listen to it.

It's that simple.

NP;)

It's all about the black metal for me anyways, which is why I'm going to hellfest (to see immortal primarily) rather than something with these big thrash bands at.
