At least when it dies, it takes 3/4 of your data with it and you have to totally rebuild and restore everything onto new drives.

being an IT boffin is at times a bit naff though. when things are normal we're not allowed to take the machines down, we're not allowed to perform rigorous testing on machines running production, and we're funding cut all to buggery. however...if a machine ever does give up the ghost we have to fix it by telepathy within minutes, get yelled at if we can't (because we have to wait for parts or some such idiocy) and get the blame for it anyway because how dare we let a machine run that we weren't 100% sure would function perfectly at all times? obviously we must all be idiots! why don't we test the machines thrice a week? here, have another budget cut! bastards, how dare my (utterly unimportant) website be down for 8 production minutes! you're obviously all incompetent!

when things are not normal, ie when we have a decent manager who is clued in and knows that things like disks and ram and cpus and psus and stuff will fail and that human error occurs it's a far better life, but somehow those guys tend to get either promoted away or leave by themselves :/
