The art of conversation.... ....dead?

I dont know about you guys, but I feel that the main part of the group is talking, the rest is exping. Without the talk exping gets incredibly boring.

The majority of tree groups I've been in, group chat is soo quiet with only the occasional ding, grats etc. I try and start a conversation with people, and only receive one word answers. Do people switch off while playing and drool over the keyboard in a vegetated state, pushing buttons like a reflex action? Without the talk I just dont find it fun. Indeed conversation is an art, but it doesn't seem to be embraced by the large number of lvl 44+ in lyonesse.

There are the few, who I end up talking to, in a very duologue style, while everyone else reamains quiet, vegetated in the background never saying anything.

to be honest no wonder people are leaving when you cant even start up a conversation, and have some sort of insight into the people you are playing with.

when i was in groups i spoke sometimes but because it was so repeatitive and boring i usually watched tv at the same time and turned the sound effect on high so i can here when we get attacked.

Well, Gal's personality is, she's supposed to be quiet and not particularly confident in herself, so if you group with her and she doesn't say much, that might be why...Of course, if i'm very tired or drunk, then she won't shut up, so you might want to avoid her when i am :p

usually you guys are telling me to shut up :)

Don't forget some people maybe foreign or distracted....... don't take their silence the wrong way.

I talked alot and laughed but sometimes a vegetable state is good, helps you get the job done without the mind saying (Start) <why am I doing this> all the time and the reminder <ohh yeah cause rvr at 50 will be super>. (Go Back to Start)

:)

My time at tree grps always went rather quick i had good fun when i wasnt shouting OOM or dying :p

Failing that u just need someone mad in the grp <hides> or have a good old sing along :)

Always helps especially when the manner is regenerating.

Strip shows maybe a way forward if u havea foxy minstrel in teh grp like i did with smiiley :p

Hehe justa thought ;)

I know what you mean about Zombie XP groups. That's when the game becomes a chore.

You know a good group, it's when your not counting your exp-bubbles after every pull!

Some Templars are good to group with, Jerreck and Bluelion are good for a laugh, specially when together. But they level slower then I do :(

Anyway Docs, get me into a Tree group and I'll talk as much as you want ;)

Doc, obviously, you are doing this the wrong way.

If your group is not chatty, and chatty is what you want, you should be PM'ing the people you _know_ will rather be chatty and die, because they are typing, than get xp and be bored :)

personally if the group is quiet and i'm getting bored i usually pick one random unmezzed purple mob and hit it with confuse :D then the fun and games begin again!

for some wierd reason people sometimes have a problem with that though! :)

Its just that some people, while being excellent players, just DONT talk :/

The best thing I've found to do is just pick your groups, with at least 1 person you're friendly with, and talk to them in groupchat. Normally everyone else joins in with you :)

The best way to get xp is when you're talking and having a laugh, the time flies by when you're having fun (as the saying goes..)

I tend to get killed or loosing my group bcz of chatting. It happens in PvE aswell as in PvP. So if you see me standing alone near a tree at Odin's or Yggdra don't kill me! I am chatting. :D

Niar... when you PA'd me yesterday near Lingen I was chatting too. To bad that I was chatting with my group...

me: bla bla bla...
Niar cuts my nose off
group: Jeri?
me: assassin
me hits sprint, speed boost and num-lock
me: alb
me runs for the tree with group hiding in
Niar gets chopped down before I can even turn around

To all you Infis out there: I am NEVER alone! I am no solo hunter. I have backup even when I seem to be alone.
SO LEAVE ME ALONE

Jerreck, being my cousin, sadly trains a bit slower than he otherwise would have, but hey - one day he will be Albion's first Avalonian level 50 armsman! Or are there any others out there? :)

Chatty group

To be honest, I rarely get the pleasure of good group chats unless there are many Templars in it.

We do tend to value the social as much as the kill,pull,rinse-repeat style of play.

A Templar group in full flow is the single best way to overcome the tedium of levelling.

Then you havent grouped with Merlin's Kin I hear <smiles>

we tend to be quite chatty ...
atleast Rharcyn and Myrkul ... Rydd and feknol doesnt say much, due to lack of english ...

but feknol is known in the Salisbury Plains as the crazy cleric, Rharcyn is always whining, and Myrkul just cant stop offending people, but they makes lot of noise which makes every pull a new experience :þ

lol, even Cilir, our new armsman seems to be a laugh, and the best part, he dont know why we laugh of him ...

' WERR OU!! ' was a quite funny sentence ... and is now our battlecry when we are slaying Vigis or Fallen Warriors in Barrows

what he ment to say was ' Where are you ? '

:)

Alot of players tend to use IRC when ingame.

I know that when I play, I am usually looking at and chatting in IRC on the other PC rather than paying attention to the game :)

But a good group can really be fun. The original HDS group we had (Locomo, Setanta, Moddru, Kaulso, Fionn, Lomarion, Vannelle and myself) would sometimes spend more time chatting (well... slagigng each other off actually) than we did actually playing the game, and we have carried this on to the current HDS setup. Guildchat is usually buzzing with alot of ooc or off-topic chat, and combined with the usual /cg's, /as, /send's and /advice chats, I find there is rarely a moment when I am not typing, and at peak times the amount of mt's I make are unbelievable.

Combine this with 4 IRC channels and the BW forum... sheesh! no wonder it took me so long to hit 50 :)
