Even when I played AD&D I never agreed with the alignment system.

Nothing more annoying then players shouting 'you cannot do that it doesn't fit with your alignment!'.

Simple fact is people are not that easy to label and fit into a simple category, well apart from Gordon Brown i.e 'nob'.

A person might have strong morale standards on one topic but less strict on another due to how they were raised or past experiances and the alignment system in AD&D never really allowes for it if you follow it to the letter.

I can understand Paladins needing a strict code and morale compass, but it was generally just annoying for other classes, we usually ignored the rule on that.

Kagato makes a good point, that sort of thing is ever fluxuating and we applied it back in the day.

You could be a lawful good, but turn out chaotic evil in the end.

This thing is way too family oriented anyway, as it counts too much goodnes from acting normally towards family.

I think it does its job. At least it gives a slight hint to what person "that person" might be. So less questioning things unless you think you can make a better one, and then present it to us.
