Just come back from an amazing Thai restaurant. Don't normally go for Thai, but this restaurant was highly recommended, and didn't disappoint. Massive menu (not sure if thats a good thing or not...). Anyway, the red chicken curry was amazing. Everyone ordered different stuff...I'm still not hooked on the whole coconut thing - a tad sweet for me....will stick to the slightly hotter dishes next time & pass on the sweet ones.

That is all.

try a panaeng (?) curry, or mussaman, both of them kick ass spicey wise, both with coconut and both nice tasting.

They got an authentic Vietamese restaurant near my parents, they have some really nice food, wish i live next to them so i could eat there everyday, lots of veggies and meats.. My fav is the "birdsnest" you just gobble down the meat and veggies in the nest then nibble on the nest that has the juices from the meat and veggies... *drools*

There's a really nice Thai restaurant near me that was on one of Gordon Ramseys top restaurant programmes (It might have actually won it). It does take away as well apparently, might have to try it.

Also is it just me or have all the chinese restaurants in London become fucking grotty? I haven't enjoyed a proper chinese for years.

Where was it in London? My friend and I could never find a decent one, they all suck compared to the real thing, all far too sweet.

You probably had Tom Yam (ต้มยำ)? If you go again I suggest Som Tam (ส้มตำ)(although I don't think they can get Pappaya in the UK) and/or Pad Thai (ผัดไทย)

There's a really top notch Thai restaurant in Shepherd's Bush, Sontam on Askew Road.

Ditto on the Chinese food thing, they all seem pretty shit these days, but I think its just "Chinese" food itself; the MSG laden crap we get in Europe has always been rubbish, its just as tastes have become broader we've all realised it.

Will pass it on to my friend (thai) but as you can imagine she knows what quality is.

Theres MSG in most thai dish's, but being banned from the UK, they probably don't take the risk. That coupled with key ingredients being expensive to import, it turns out pretty shitty.

Chinese food just tastes like they use liters of oil in every dish in the UK.

Our nearest one in Poole can get Pappaya, no idea where from as we can never find it. The Som Tam's good but not up to street food standards of course :)

We tend just to have soup, plenty of starters and the salads, as the main courses are far too oily and bland...just like UK Chinese food

Love Thai food, comes a close second to my love for Italian dishes. Quite lucky in that my brother now cooks authentic Thai food and my god it is delicious. Over in Guildford is a Thai shop that imports all ingredients from Thailand, including Pappaya and Pad Thai :) The shop is owned by the Thai Terrace and her sister restuarant, SwanSum (not sure it is called that but it is next door to the food shop).

Haven't eaten at a lot of thai restaurants. But one of my favorite recipes to cook at home is this (it was called thai but don't know how authentic it is, I just know its easy to make and I love the taste). Don't know the exact measurements.

Chicken 500gr-1000gr depending on how much food oyu make
8 dl Coconut milk
1 ginger (about 30-50gr?)
3 "bell pepper" in different colors
1 jar of Red Curry paste (take less if you want it less spicy)
2-3 teaspoons of Sambal Oelek.
1 tablespoon of Fish sauce.
5 garlic pieces

Start with ginger and garlic in frying pan, add chicken after a minute or two. When the chicken is done pour on the coconut milk and pepper. Add the rest of the ingredients and let it cook for 10-15 minute. Serve with rice.

Place called Patpong in E4. There are probably better restaurants in the centre of town TBH. Yes the food was very nice, and it was packed out, but won't be rushing back there. Definitely not a huge fan of coconut curries.
