Hi peeps,
I need opinions... I'm after this here TFT 'Sony SDM-X52'. But I'm concerned about dead pixels, bad angles and large delays on the screen when playing games :(

am I right to be concerned? or are TFT's ok these days :)

I have 19" Belinea TFT screen, and have been playing games on TFT's for about a year. I have never had any problems at all with any of the things you mention. If you stick to known makes of TFT you should be fine (I've never had any problems with Belinea, Sony, Philips and LG TFT's. Had dead pixels on CTX and Relisys on work machies). The image sharpness and clarity on a TFT seems much better than any CRT I've used (imho). You'll never go back to CRT once you've used a TFT - and that Sony looks spinky :)

Go for the iiyama 4332 if you have the money - awesome screen with the best picture quality, pixel ratio and colours I've seen.

A little pricey ;)

My price range could get a 17", but I'd rather go for a quality 15" :)

Just came across this:

Looks most pleasing!

they're shit :p

tested one two months ago and it sucked - poor brightness, contrast and colour, noise on the DVI (which just shouldn't be a possibility)

overall - a total waste of $$$$

Hehe, :D

Which one did ya test? That one has no DVI! :p
Strange though! Seems Toms Hardware rates that one as one of the best! :) as do other sites i've searched on!

the 17" prophetview

they only have two sizes, 15" and 17"

both are available as DVI or VGA models with about £75 price diff

oh, and they're 4th generation samsung panels while the majority of the competition are now integrating 5th gen.

Strange it dont say that anywhere on the Hercules webby! Yup as I already stated Toms Hardware has done a review of all the new monitors, and they reckon the Eizo was the best performance wise :) but they still rate the Herc pretty highly! One of the best... apparently ;)

I was weighing up for a TFT but decided to use some of the money for other hard ware upgrades (e.g. a GF4).
Instead I got a 19" Iiyama beast for £300 which does 1600x1200 at 100Hz. It doesn't seem any deeper than my old 17" Belinea so I'm dead happy with it.

My personal opinion is that, at the moment, unless you can try one out in store (which obviously inflates the price over on line retailers) I wouldn't feel 100% confident about the screen delays. Yet. That is certainly what finally swung me away from it.

the iiyama I mentioned has a 15ms delay. I think I can live with it, but I am rather picky heh. I'd have to make a deal where I give the tft a trial run before I purchase it. Hopefully the lads down the local pootashoppe are up for it, after all they stand to gain ~1500euros heh.
