Text problems

Had a strange problem last night and cannot resolve it. When I use the shift key whilst writing a line of text the cursor returns to the start of the text and the line becomes corrupt.

So if I wrote:
/g what time are you logging?
it would read
/?/g what time are you logging

or if I wrote
/s Shaman LFG RVR
it would read
/RVR GFL S /s haman

anytime I needed the shift this would occur and a reboot etc did not sort it out.

Any advice, other than not using the shift key :-P
