Text Messages

Firstly, those who're inevitably going to try and point me in the direction of the mobile phone forum can kiss my grits.

Secondly, i'm really very angry. Why the fuck did it take two whole (It was sent on Tuesday) days, about 50 hours for a simple text message to reach me? Is it Orange, or the Sim card? Or a lack of credit even?

Because of it, i missed out on a special occassion.

:/

This is a conspiracy.

I used to get that a lot on my old phone. Infact, o2 sent me a couple replacement sim cards over the years because my old phone just refused to collect text messages every six months or so. I was told to do this whole find network manually, try to find a network you aren't on, then go back to your real network thing, but it never worked properly. I never got a decent explanation.

Big style annoying.

It's a Sony Ericsson T68i, i've only had it about a month.

Well reception and power on the mobile phone help too.

Reception is a bit sporadic, and it's been on the whole time, but two days? hmmmz

Have you tried contacting your service provider? You may find that they can help you with things like that.

On the other hand, leave it with me, I'll wave a magic wand, and get it sorted for you. If you like.

Now, bearing in mind that I'm a techy spoon, so anything I say will be garbled beyond recognition, it was all to do with them not being able to locate my phone. They'd send special emergency texts through to test it, and they wouldn't arrive either. They'd get me to text me to test it, and no joy. My phone existed if you tried to phone it, but not if you sent a text. They just kept on bouncing round the ether.

It wasn't to do with the phone itself, but with their ability to recognise my phone number and sim and track me down.

I think this may have been dicussed in a thread in the past, and closer to the event I may have made more sense. Memory makes things into hazey, y'hear?

The worst I get is sometimes messages 'get stuck' and I don't get them until the person who sent them sends me another. Then I get about 5 :s

To be honest you shoudln't rely on text messages for anything important, they can be so random. I know someone sent you the text but you should get them to phone you in future.

People have got into the mindset that texting is a good form of communication when really its very limited. Dont get me wrong though coz i text all the time but you cant really convey what you are saying very well and then coz they can be so unreliable you miss out on things coz u didnt get the text.

The whole text message system was never created for the levels of usage you get these days - I have a mate who is a pretty senior techy in one of the big mobile telco's who said that at peak times the system cannot cope and just completely drops large numbers of text messages - of course I never told you this since the Telco's are scared of Oftel finding out about this kinda thing...

Right, those that re getting text message delyas and errors -not just one offs but more often than not. Post your network here, and we can draw up a table of which is performing better.*

*In no way linked to my searching for a new contract and network.

T-Mobile payg: Fine

Orange contract: Fine (odd blip but over the period 1999-2003 I don't think that's too bad tbh).

Not helpful for the chart, however a mate of mine (C: Garry) says he had this problem, went into an orange shop & mentioned it and the guy basically banged in a rake of codes which appear to have improved it vastly.

My mates who are both on Orange get this - no messages until they send one.
