Hi

Has anyone had any problems with Telewest's Digital TV service? With us, the picture goes all blocky sometimes, or freezes. It recovers after a few seconds but still its pretty anoying =(

Not what you'd expect when the digital companies have been harping on bout 'clearer, sharper pictures etc...'

BTW has anyone been contacted about cable modems yet? We registered our intrest on the site last month, and still they haven't called us. Guess its abit early, given the length of time they usually take to do stuff =)

I've had Active Digital for a couple of weeks now, and it's utter pants.

The picture does the random "phone jack" thing here as well, and the screen also goes blank now and then. If you switch channel and back again, it fixes it.

More annoying is the fact it takes AGES to do ANYTHING eg get the TV Guide. "You wont get the magazine any more, coz the TV Guide, it's all, like INTERACTIVE, innit!" Exclaimed my Telewest person. Well, it looks like it's connected with the equivalent of a 3,200baud modem, as it takes around 30-60 seconds just to find out what is on. God knows whats going to happen when they start offering interactive stuff.

However, when it is working, it looks lovely on my TV :p And as it's only about 2 quid a month more than analogue cable, it's probably worth it (although be prepared never to see Asianet again: I tell you, I almost cried when I found out).

The port on the back is largely useless, it's just a stock attachment on the PACE boxes that Telewest use. It won't be used for Cable Modems, that will be something else entirely I believe (it would be v annoying to have to connect your PC to your telly after all).

TW's Cable Modem service is called Blueyonder (try www.cableinet.co.uk, I think they've replaced the page now). I wouldn't bother going to "register your interest" tho, as the form appears broken. I entered my post code, only to be told that Im not within a Telewest franchise area. Yeah cheers mate, despite the fact I'm using a TW line to connect to the net...

Cheers

Oooh, I got an all new, all irritating problem with my Active Digital yesterday.

You know how when you turn on a N64/PSX, it centres the controls in their current position? So if you boot up while holding buttons and/or the control stick, your cursor goes haywire?

Well my remote control did that yesterday. I was happily watching "Power Zone" on Discovery, and suddenly the remote sensor started flashing and I was taken to the TV On Demand schedule for next week.

Reconnecting the power supply for both the receiver box and the remote control did nothing, as did more conventional methods of "Remote Control engineering" (ie swearing, throwing it around the room, stamping on it).
