"Last night, players participated in a massive RvR combat session where more than 1,500 characters simultaneously fought one another on a single battlefield."

WTF?? 1500?? what about framerate? i remember getting 0.2 fps 2 years ago with the 300 people relic wars, what about 1500??
daoc has never been framerate friendly but playing a game with less then 1 fps cant be fun...

And there lies the problem with RvR since NF.

It really doesnt matter what you do: the side with most numbers will win. Whether you play 'well' or go AFK it makes virtually no difference to your changes of winning or losing.

Fun? Some folks think so, I struggle to understand why ;)

What a load of crap.

1st of all I play on Iseult which was one of the 4 servers forced into the cluster this week.

2nd the 4-way cluster was a zerging lag fest from hell.

3rd 1500 people where not in 1 fight; that's just toall BS.

4th the 4-way cluster was only up for 1 nite and the common RvR zones (called NF = New Frontiers) crashed 3 times that night. The lag was so bad you had a 4-5 second delay casting spells and RAs were not working.

5th NF is around 12 zones total not counting the north sea. So you have 1500 people spread over 12 zones.
The zergs were very large I'll give you that much but that game isn't playable when more then 200 people are in 1 fight. And you can't use the new Catacombs client to play RvR unless you have a very powerful computer; otherwise you get the slideshow and then insta death as you lag into the zerg.

6th cluster sucks

Hehe someone is bitter :p

it's better than ToA for RvR apparently - they've optimised some stuff :)

uuh wah?

On _some_ machines it runs better ye.. but most do not use the cataengine afaik, since they lag more.

I have a p4-3.0, fast HD, 6800LE, 1G ram.. i lag more with it and there is some slimy weird lag attached to the engine aswell which is impossible to get rid of.

think it's the lack of pre-cache option, if you have >1G memory you can use precache and run better with ToA, according to some.

Didn't notice much difference myself, but I was RvRing on pendragon where there's noone around ;) so not likely to.

the new engine enhancements in catacombs are startling...

it really shifts on hardware where the TOA engine would bog down to a crawl

the new graphics engine/models DO help.

oh and it was 1500 in rvr,not 1500 at one battle...

still, wouldnt mind a euro cluster....
