Front of one of my teeth just came completely off whilst eating, so there's just the middle of the tooth and the back of the tooth left. The front of the tooth is quite fragile I think (ie if I chewed on it I reckon the whole tooth could fracture) but I'm not at home at the moment so can't visist my dentist and won't be for atleast another month, do I just leave it and not eat on that side of the mouth at all? ;o Never had this happen! :p

The more of the tooth you loose the harder its gonna be to fix/remove. Itll most likely have to be removed.

go see a dentist. I stopped taking care of mine at one point when I went through depression, one broke, then another... by the time I was ok it was past the point of recovery. Had to have a load took out, so I'm left with only 8 of my own teeth. So yeah, take care of it, don't just leave it, as the problem can easily grow from there.

Oh I intend to go to "my" dentist as soon as I can, but it'll be about 3-4 weeks before I can get back unless I REALLY have to go now, it's 5-6 hours travel from where I am and I wouldn't be comfortable going to any other dentist, I'm hoping it's fine to leave for that duration of time if I just don't do anything with the tooth :p

Go and see a dentist now. While you may seem like you're leaving it alone the inside of the tooth is going to be open to everything you eat. Eventually you'll get a lot of pain as the decay progresses to the nerve and then will have to have Root Canal surgery or will lose the tooth entirely.

It's not worth leaving it. Also be aware that you may have to have 2 or more operations to fix and cap the tooth so I'd find a dentist near you tbh.

As many have stated already, the problem is that you're basically showing the "inside" of your tooth to any bacteria that comes by. If it's broken hard enough you will also be in a world full of pain when brushing your teeth, thus reducing your will to brush them, thus increasing the chance of having something really bad happen. I understand that 5-6h travel is crap, but it's better than paying the money for a replacement tooth.

EDIT: And if your tooth just broke off like that, there is a chance that something is wrong with your health, so that might be a reason to go as well.

Yeah when i broke my front teeth playing football i went to see a dentist asap if not only just because of the pain. but if i left it too long to see the doctor they said they wouldve had to take the teeth out and do root canal surgery and stuff....so see dentist asap prevention is better than cure i think the saying is :)

Should get my teeth fixed too, couple of "bad years" did a number on them.

Will cost a huge tonload of cash to get new choppers, but worth it.

Luckily these days they can implant new teeth that are basically like old ones.

I had a friend who had all his front teeth knocked out, didn't see him for years then saw him a little hile back and he'd got new ones and looked lovely.

Honestly though be careful because aside from any cosmetic damage you'll be open to infection; keep yer gob clean rinse out as much as you can tbh.

Oh and top tip for any other tooth related stuff; if you knock one out that's still got its root put it in milk and take it to dentist ASAP as will keep it alive and can be re-transplanted (lol is that a word??)

Well, spoke to my Dentist today and the earliest free appointment they had wasn't until 22nd Sep, she said that as long as the tooth is kept clean and rinsed regularly (3-4 times a day) it rarely developes into anything worse, however if it does and I start to feel pain or sensitivity I can call in for an emergency appointment. So seems I practically ended up waiting ~4 weeks anyway ^^

Without being argumentative here Afran, why did you seek peoples' advice and when it was given ignore it and only talk to your dentist anyway? Not criticising, just asking. ;)

Whenever I have filling issues or cracked teeth my dentist is like "Shit, we'd better get this fixed straight away to avoid infection." I find it odd yours thinks it's ok as food gets stuck in teeth and can stay after brushing and stuff.

lol no it is what we freddies do! we ask for advice then ignore it but it starts a chain of debate in which the original topic is usually lost in oh say the first 2 or 3 posts and by the time it gets to page 3 there is usually some porn or pics of boobies, two people having an arguement about the merits of plastique over marmite and someone going on about muslims...

By the time the person who had asked for the advice gets to the end of the thread they are so side tracked by all of our random wibble they have forgotten all about their problem and are in a happy, contented state of catatonia.

It is the way of the forum.

Believe me without asking here I wouldn't of even bothered ringing my Dentist at all. I'd of just left it until I was back at home and just around the corner from the dentist, at least this way I was motivated to ring them & I know now that I could go any day if it progresses as an emergency appointment :)

If you toss the salad too many times, this is what happens!

Hope everything goes ok for you buddy.

tbh swill your mouth out atleast daily, if not twice daily with concentrated salt solution bud. Will help to reduce infection chances.

ps. Pics? :D

You can get an emergency appointment at most dentists even if you are not registered there, they can stick a temporary filling on for you till you can get a more permenant solution from your dentist.

I've had one tooth filled. One I know I need to get done (hole in the top, never hurts and so far has never been infected) and one other one which I forgot. At 16 I got told I'd not have any back teeth left by the time I'm 18. Am now 21, and all my teeth are healthy (imo) - other than pain from ubercold food/drinks and pain where a wisdom tooth is, I've never had issues. But then, I do my teeth about twice a day for like 10m now.

Teeth are odd things, I need to go to a dentist eventually I think. Just to see if they're any worse than they were. (Considering I never get any sort of tooth ache and smoke, I'm surprised)
