A lot of people do rely on one device for their wake up call, I do, but I know other people will wake me up if it fails.

It's silly to rely on one device if it's REALLY important to get up, but it's a lot sillier what happened with the iphone :D

It's like an update that disables texting and no one notices.

Soddy coding, soddier testing.

On the letter more so;

Relies solely on alarm clock to wake up as it's ESSENTIAL and then only uses an iphone? Silly.
Saying "bill will be late", silly too. She still owes the bill o matter what, and now she's planning on getting into more trouble(as unemployed) with unpaid bills?
Thinking her letter will at all effect anything, except her wasting time on it, or to ACTUALLY reach Mr Jobs, totasl silly person complete.

She should've tested the alarm, test it each time, if she's so reliant on it.

Also, it's still, at the end, users responsibility to get to work on time. Iphone isn't your personal butler.

Ofcourse i'm immune to these kind of things since i'm using a nokia POS mark II from the year 2001 or something :p

I used my phone as my main alarm and have for years. Only time it let me down when was when the ridiculous "security" software that work insists we have on the thing decided to do an update that switched the phone off, and I was late for work. Fortunately, so was my boss and and a few dozen other "priviledged" managers who'd been given these pieces of crap.

Now I have a baby, so alarms are a distant memory.

I'm using a single device as I'm only 5 mins from work, but used to have phone, blackberry and alarm clock all going off at once. My neighbors hated me but couldn't afford to miss the train.

I do.
Alarm clock radio + mobile phone.

Mobile phone has 2 alarms, one to get me to notice it, the other to remind me that it's still there 5 mins later. At the same time the alarm clock radio kicks in, so I should have a variety of sounds to wake me up.

No you're not. Part of the issue is that the godly iphone is making people reliant on ONE device - and that's what Jobs wants. This is a perfect example of it, she put too much faith in one device.

2 other points:

1) There is a lack of context in her article, she stated the employer was happy with her effort and demeanor, but not with her lateness. That smacks of me of lateness that happened quite a few times before she was fired imo.

2) 2 degrees and no job? Good Lord. Do REAL degrees woman!

"While such a job may seem insignificant to some, it is the only thing keeping me paying $100/mo for my iPhone service."

She isn't paying $100 to Apple and she doesn't have to apologise to Steve Jobs if her bill is late - the money goes to her service provider.

For someone with two degrees I'm surprised that she cannot make that distinction.

well there are a lot of buttons on the iPhone, it must be quite confusing to the fairer sex
