!!warning!! Seriously technical question

A quickie...which protocol is used between the cablemodem, and the UBR? It's obviously not ethernet.

Does the DOCSIS standard, also cover the custom protocol between CM and UBR as well as defining the system overall?

Is it possible to sniff packets on the coax running to the CM? (ie, could I place a device "after" my CM and sniff data coming in/out) and how decryptable is that data?

This might sound clandestine, but it's actually for something quite legit.

Well, I found half my answer...

DOCSIS specifies schemes and the protocol for exchanging bidirectional signals over cable.

It specifies both. All I need to know now is how decryptable is it (NTL do not use baseline privacy, if that helps at all)
