Sorry I did try a search, but couldn't find anything, read through the post, saw Mystic G's comment - so why is it Technation in the forum title, and the website logo, and tecnation in the URL?
Just that someone else already had the Technation.co.uk domain?
About two and a half years ago I was writing bits for the register and ted approached me to do a column for BW.
After a month or two scribbling bollox for BW, Trebz mentioned one day in passing that there was a hardware site coming together, and after a bit of discussion I was asked to write for, and eventually edit it.
18 months ago, after a few 'h00ge' articles and some really high profile partnerships I was roped into entering 'professional' journalism which first saw me working on PC Plus, then PC Format, and then doing a 15 month stint editing the hardware section in PC Zone while freelancing occasionally for the Register and the Inquirer...
Coming full circle I decided to get a proper job again a couple of months ago (slacker journalism didn't suit meh) and so with a team of 10, we've re-launched the site.
And so, our quest begins to provide a totally non-profit making webby which reviews kit, provides the latest news and covers the shows/launches which are relevant to you all (we hope).
In a sense it's the perfect arrangement, while noone gets paid per-se, the enthusiasts involved get to tinker with the latest kit, benchmark it, and churn out impartial articles to let you guys know whats worth spending on and what isn't. Triffic really
Xav
P.S. As always, if anyone is interested in joining our quest0r they should PM Wilier, Jonty or myself.
Almost forgot to answer the other bit of the question.
From when it first began, Technation was always the branding for the forums, and was later removed when we wound the site down a bit - now we're back and up to speed we've bunged the name back in so our readers join the BW masses, and vice versa
From my memory of the "new sites" time the logic was clearly it was a Tech site & had to have Nation in it to follow the theme. If you go to somewhere like http://www.freeparking.co.uk/ & bang in Tech & Nation you'll see why a letter got dropped (though TechNation.org.uk is available ).
from what I know there were a SHED LOAD of nations sites which died over the last couple of years, many have commited to working on webbies, and after a week or two the novelty has left them with only a couple of staff. I'm not sure if BW ever actually closed any down, tho they certainly got removed from the main site links and whatnot.
TribesNation basically went to shit because everyone who said they'd get involved didn't do anything & I got bored trying to keep it up. Still got access but not much point in reality *shrug*
