Seriously, what happened to this? Did Valve just forget and contine helping the CS team add stupid things to Counterstrike?

It was meant to come out years ago, even then it would of been late. So late that me and Cheesebury once talk about it being late :)

They realised they could make loads of money from HL by bringing out add on packs and then different versions of the game which included the addon packs.

It's vapourware, same as DNF, neither of them will ever be released. Seriously, what software company could afford to let any project run as late as these 2 have? However fantastic the final product was they'd never recoup the money they'd have been haemorraging on the project teams for the last x years (where x > a sensible number).

You sure about DNF? Maybe I'm just being naive but I saw a video trailer for it and it looked fairly near done. Even if it was just a load of promo stuff they must be trying to keep interest alive for some reason.

I'd completely forgotten TF2 existed (or not, as it were) :)

The problem with TF2 taking so long is that all the good ideas that were going to be in it have now been used. Take for instance RTCW, MOHAA, BF1942 etc, they all have elements of what was going to be in TF2.

let me tell you a story. Twas the summer of 2001. All was good and hairy and munkey, after having eaten his morning banana, logged onto the local junglenet. After a quiet few hours he visted the team fortress two site where he discovered an unusual notice:

NEWS: June 1999

Team Fortress 2 is due out by christmas.

and that was the latest news, dunno whats on it now thou. I've lost all intrest

If tf2/dnf were both dead beyond repair, surely they'd say so? What possible gain is there in keeping the public hoping?

They'll both be forgotten about in time. TF2 is pretty much gone in the collective gamer conciousness now anyway, just clinging on in amusing little vignettes like this. DNF may hang around in people's hopes a bit longer, not much though.

Publically admit that you've been hyping vapourware for 4+ years? Nooooooo, baaaaaad move :p Keep quiet until all living memory is gone? Much easier :)

unreal came out way later than it was meant too
was meant to come out years before it did if i remember correctly
if i recall they went back to the drawing board as they were behind the times as far as engine tech went
and eventually came out with a damn good game

Unreal was OK. Not as good as it would have been if it had been released on time (IE, before Q2.)

I'd completely forgotten about TF2. I couldn't care less about it now.

Remember when we all bought HL cos we thought TF2 would be an expansion pack for it :)
