Team Damage on public servers

Yo!

Hmm, its more fun with damage on. If you play with damage on, it will become less chaos on the public server, people will be more careful, after all you don´t want to be called "teamkiller", if you unable the team damage you can rush into a base and shoot mortars and don´t care about the "result", all will gain on having the teamdamage on.

I vote yes!

I've just had a most interesting conversation on a tribes server, and I would like some input:
Team Damage on public servers - not league servers, and not during league games. Should it be on? or should it be off?
Some reasons I heard for enabling Team Damage on a public server:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE><LI>'because'
<LI>'because that's how you play this map'
<LI>'that's how we play league games'<LI>'because defence is too easy with team damage off'[/list]
Now, when I refused to allow team damage to be turned on, players (all clanned by the way) started complaining, and abusing me.

So tell me - On or Off?

Errm I've got to dissagree here.

Currently with TD on its noticably worse.

Team killers seem to be haveing a field day. Either openly shooting their team mates or to be different mineing their own stations.

The public servers are still populated by nubeees the majority of the time. Thus they are still learning the game and don't know how to vote to turn team dammage off, change map's or kick TK'ers.

As it was before, if enough experienced players joined a server and wanted team dammage on, they could vote it. (I've seen it happen etc) With it off there are a lot of frustrated players, and a lot of ill feeling with regard to TK'ers in particular.

I think it should be on. Teamkillers have a field day but you don`t really get that many of them and when they do appear they are quickly kicked up the arse. Makes for better play, more careful play and that equals more skillful players and folk learning quicker.

The game becomes more of a skill and adreneline rush when you (as a player) get totally involved with the particular map or game you and your team are playing in.

Putting team damage on enforces a level of reality that improves the game and the entire experience. It means you have to consider your own ppl and placement and it certainly demands more accuracy and attention to detail.

Team damage should always be on in my opinion - since to turn it of just drops the game into the realms of sillyness as ppl do (laughingly I'll admit) crazy things like mortar spamming entrances without caring about co-ordination because TD is off or mortar/disc/mine jumping their way across a map with no damage at all etc. etc. etc.

From a persomal perspective I do not see how turning TD off enhances things. If anything I believe it makes the game worse. However - that is a personal opinion.

TD off, it can make flag switches uncrackable, but its more newbie friendly which I think is what pub servers need to be.

My vote goes very much for Team Damage ON. Despite the fact that Tribes is a computer game in which outlandish things, like armored humans jetting around and blowing one another up, happen, they should at least happen somewhat logically and in my opinion, that means that a mortar does damage to everyone/thing in it's blast radius.

For those of you who want to tame Heavy O, TD on means that those much-despised mortar-spammers had better be a little more thoughtful before lobbing in some little green snacks and wiping out their own flag carrier.

Teamkillers can cause more ruckus with TD on; this is true. I usually play on servers where I know the majority of the people, an admin, or have the password myself. If admins would give the SAD to a few trusted regulars, it would be that much easier to keep the servers clean. If all else fails there are a number of admin mods which initiate a vote and/or kick after, for example, 8 TKs. Others give the TK victim the option of kicking the TKer after he has accumulated a certain number of team kills (a little extreme since accidents dohappen).

And why do we have to cater to newbies? Tribes has been out for a year or so now, and there should be a fairly strong community of experienced players. Why "dumb down" the servers for newbies? They're certainly not going to get any more mature playing with TD off.

TD ON!!!

Only problem I see is an increased level of 'verbal' with TD on, but if its always on then ppl will get used to it anyway.

We have all killed our teamates by accident and no doubt this will continue, but when joining servers its always awkward at first as to whether TD is on or off. Better if its always ON or always OFF.

For me ALWAYS ON please!!!

TEAM DAMAGE ON!
It gives newbies a better chance to learn it the proper way! This means they do better when they trial for a possible spot in a team.
Tribes is totally based on team work and playing with TD off would make more for a fake-gameplay.

On on on on
Thanks

I vote for TD on! Like stated earlier TK's can be kicked and newbies are better off learning it the "hard way", then getting it with silk gloves. To remove TD from the game is to remove a total dimension of game/teamplay. With that said I have to mention how hard it is to get Barrysworld CTF - base server to be TD on! I cant really see why?
