You hit a mob first, you get its loot and xp, others who hit it get nothing. Simple and mostly good system. Sucks when you play a class with no instas or ranged spells and you are camping named mobs though.

Bit confused by that Ashandar; you say you got a message saying the mob was tagged? I've never seen that one. Normally you can beat on tagged mobs to your heart's content but, as fionnel says, it won't avail you of much.

Certain spells can't be used on mobs tagged for other players - polymorph is one, I'm sure there are others.

I just nuke stuff to help other players. Saw a level 6 paladin getting thumped by a level 9 gnoll yesterday so just insta killed it with fire blast. ;)

There seem to be exceptions though. I pulled a "young forest bear" (or sumthing like that) yesterday with my level 8 paladin. A warrior (don't remember his level, though) rushes in, whacks the mob a few times. The thing dies, I get XP, but he loots it and I can't :(

(note: this isn't to complain about ppl rushing in combats. I'm sure he meant to help. He probably was just as surprised as me that he could loot the mob :) ).

Anyways, I assume the damage dealt to the mob by each player also comes into consideration for the looting part.

It doesnt, the system does have a few glitches in it at the moment, certain spells and abilities wont properly 'tag' a mob for you. Also there are other things that will reset the 'tagged' status, i.e the original tagger dies or goes out of range.

The one flaw in this system is the agro generated should direct towards the tagger from the outset. I find that sometimes you get some low level player run up and tag a higher level mob your about to hit, they hit for 1hp and get the tag and you smack it for 100 half a second later and cant get rid of the thing... Is okay for hunters, they can just feign death, Warrior doesnt have a detaunt tho :(

there are a few spells which dont claim mobs.. not 100% sure but i think some of the hunter instas dont.. like the snare one..or some warlock instas.. DoT's i think dont claim till they've ticked. again dont quote me on this but i know i've taken tags from already pulled mobs with Immolate on em.
Poly doesnt claim.. unless you nuke then poly.. in which, although you've dmg'd it, its at full health

mage is great at tagging mobs :p frost nova 4tehwin

My priests baby DOT spell (I forget it's name, it looks like a fiery skull I think from memory) doesn't seem to tag mobs. I have pulled with that and then had the mob taken from me.

The priest dot doesnt do any damage til the 3rd second, when it does the first tick of damage, the mob is tagged. before then, it isnt
