Hey, i'm not sure if its possible, but can one edit a jpg or bmp file in order to change the appearance of a program in the system tray, or does it involve lots of registry editing or something?

Ahh, I might try and use this to change the Winamp systray icon. It seems very low res and, basically, crap.

There are about 13 different images to choose from clown, to change one press "Ctrl-P" in winamp, select general preferences, and there is a slider labelled "System tray icon" with the different choices.

They're all the same, as in like 16bit colours, blocky etc. etc.

There is the thing about windows only actually displaying 256 colours or something stupid, rather than 16/32 bit.

Ahh... Well some of the other icons look nicer than the Winamp ones. I need to get it as good as them :)

System tray icons only display in 16 colours, regardless of what they're mean to be, so if you use a 256 colour icon for the tray it'll look wank.

Fuck it then, I won't bother trying to make one look nice. I'll just keep my eyes closed or something.
